The Role:
We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Associate to join our Corporate Development team. In this role, you will be an active participant in the Team’s sourcing, evaluation and execution of acquisitions, strategic investments, and partnership opportunities across all of SoFi’s business units to help the company achieve its ambitious goals. This role offers the opportunity to develop and refine financial modeling skills, learn key M&A processes, and gain exposure to cross-functional projects, all while being mentored by experienced team members.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with Corporate Development team, executive leadership, and business unit leads across SoFi to identify, evaluate, and execute strategic transactions aligned with the company’s growth ambitions
- Receive regular feedback and direction from the Corporate Development leadership team to ensure accuracy and alignment with business objectives
- Transaction Evaluation & Execution
- Assist the Corporate Development team throughout all aspects of a transaction, including during each of the following stages: sourcing, qualification, initial rationale and pitch, financial modeling and valuation, due diligence, closing and integration activities for acquisitions and strategic investments
- Support the development of investment memos, presentations, and recommendations for the Team to present to executive leadership and the Board
- Financial Modeling & Valuation
- Contribute to and build detailed financial models including bottoms-up long term financial projections, and valuation analyses (e.g. discounted cash flow, comparative companies, sum-of-the parts, returns models) to forecast targets’ performance under various scenarios
- Build pro forma financial models including pro forma income statements and balance sheets, as well as evaluate and determine accretion / dilution analysis and purchase price accounting implications
- Due Diligence Process
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather information needed for due diligence, ensuring data is collected accurately and in a timely manner
- Contribute to the overall evaluation of the potential target or partner
- Synthesize and communicate initial findings including risks and considerations to the rest of the Team to support the formation of risk-mitigation strategies
- Market & Competitive Analysis
- Explore and research potential new partners or targets, as well as potential industry disruptions, from variety of sources
- Stay apprised of broader industry developments such as competitive landscape and changing technologies
- Stakeholder Coordination
- Begin to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including target companies, industry experts, investment banks, and advisors
- Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects
- Support ad-hoc projects across the organization, such as evaluating new business lines, product expansions, international market entries, divestitures or expense management initiatives
- Prepare and present high-level updates and analyses to Corporate Development team and senior leadership, facilitating data-driven decision-making

What You’ll Need:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Accounting or a related field
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in investment banking, management consulting, private equity, venture capital, strategic finance, or a corporate development function
- Analytical & Technical Skills:
- Strong analytical skills, experience performing financial, valuation and quantitative data analyses, and familiarity with accounting & key operational metrics
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint
- Advanced proficiency in Google Docs/Sheets/Slides
- Project Management & Collaboration:
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage time-sensitive projects (such as in a deal execution environment)
- Collaborative working style with demonstrated ability to build strong inter-team and cross-functional relationships
- Strong organizational skills - history of balancing competing priorities with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines
- Willingness to embrace and work productively in unstructured and ambiguous environments
- Communication:
- Strong communication and presentation skills in financial environments, with experience preparing and presenting information to key decision makers and executives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to stakeholders
- Adaptability: Comfortable with ambiguity, able to pivot quickly based on new information, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment

The office is located in Pike Tower, just five blocks from Pike Place Market, and houses some of our Engineering, Design, and Product teams - including engineers, product managers, and other technical functions.
