Job Description

Summary:  The Corporate Development Sr. Director provides oversight of multiple visible, high-level enterprise-wide initiatives from a centralized approach.  The role blends several key areas including: (1) Corporate Strategic Initiatives (2) Project/Program management and oversight, (4) Enterprise Strategy, Planning and Execution.  The job supports the transparency of performance needed by senior leadership to monitor strategic initiatives that are aligned with the overall Corporate Strategy.  With a solid understanding of the company’s strategic priorities, the Director aligns oversight of projects according to current priorities. This position works cross-functionally and collaborates with employees across the enterprise.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

·       Provides leadership and drives the execution of complex, multi-disciplinary projects in globally distributed organization. Manages, facilitates and oversees high-quality projects/programs from inception by determining the scope, estimates, dependencies, risks, issue resolution, milestones, status and metrics through to maintenance of business. Documents all efforts as well as leverages resources across a “matrixed” organization.

 

·       Working through the Chief Strategic Alignment and the Steering Committee, helps to determine the prioritization of the right projects and programs.  Guides decision-makers to strategically prioritize, plan, and control enterprise portfolios.  Ensures the organization continues to increase productivity and on-time delivery - adding value, strengthening performance, and improving results.

 

·       Provides managers and executives with a process to identify potential problems earlier in the project lifecycle and the visibility to take corrective action before they impact financial results.

 

·       Builds and integrates contingency planning across the entire portfolio of projects so has to have greater flexibility around how, where, and when the organization needs to allocate resources with the flexibility to adjust those resources in response to a crisis.

 

·       Maintains response flexibility with in-depth visibility into resource allocation so that the organization can quickly respond to escalating emergencies by maneuvering resources from other activities, while calculating the impact on the wider business.

 

·       Systematically reviews project management processes while cutting out inefficiencies and automating those workflows and to ensure a consistent approach to all projects, programs, and portfolios while reducing costs.

 

·       Assures informed decisions and governance by bringing together all project collaborators, data points, and processes into a single a unified view of project, program, and portfolio status.  Maintains control and governance to ensure all projects consistently adhere to business objectives.

 

·       Extends “best practices” enterprise-wide to continuously vet project management processes and captures best practices, providing efficiency as a result.

 

·       Working alongside the project stakeholder, aligns the right resources to the right projects at the right time; ensures individual resources are fully leveraged and requirements are clearly understood.

 

·       Participates on development initiates to align client priorities through analysis (make vs. buy), research, and presenting recommendations to clients.

 

·       Partners with senior leadership (C-Suite) team on assigned projects to assess, research and make recommendations for solutions.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities        

No supervisory responsibilities, but directs and leads activities in a “matrixed” environment.

 

Client Responsibilities

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written).  One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                                             

BA/BS Degree in a related field (Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Management, etc.); 8+ years related experience and 8+ years of SME in respective area(s); (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Computer Skills

Solid computer skills with MS Office Suite and MS Project, internet research, use of databases and SQL queries.  Knowledge of MedImpact's Business Applications, MedAccess, Portals, Web Services a plus.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Project Management Professional certification required

Other Skills and Abilities                                                    

·       Working knowledge of current methodologies such as: Agile, LEAN, SCRUM, Waterfall, SDLC.

·       Good understanding of business requirements gathering; software development experience is helpful.

·       Able to lead and facilitate meetings with all levels of employees up to and including C-Suite members.

·       Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels within the organization.

·       Excellent communication skills (verbal/written).

Work Location

This position must work on-site at the San Diego Headquarters for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders.  Remote work is not an option for these purposes.

 

Working Hours

This is an exempt level position requiring one to work the hours needed to get the job done.  Therefore one must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required.  This may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business.  Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

 

Travel - This position may require domestic and international travel. A valid passport and ability to leave the United States is required.
