AllTrails is the app for exploring the outdoors. We help people spend more time outside by connecting them to their next adventure. Home to the world’s largest outdoor community, with members and trails around the globe, you can find AllTrails in the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and at alltrails.com.

Every day, our team works to get more people outside and help our members have better experiences on the trail. We lead with our values–positivity, innovation, humility, adaptability, inclusivity, and stewardship–in everything we do. Join us!

This is a U.S. based remote position. While this role does not require in-person attendance, we have a strong preference for candidates based in or near one of these cities: San Francisco CA, Portland OR, Seattle WA, Denver CO, and New York NY. Being in one of these cities creates opportunities to connect with teammates through Trail Days, co-working sessions, and local gatherings while still having the flexibility to work remotely. San Francisco employees are highly encouraged to come to the office one day per week. Please note that, at this time, we’re unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

About the role

We’re looking for a Creative Lead,  Brand Design who can set the tone for what brand design and creative development looks like at AllTrails. Brand creative isn't just aesthetic work at AllTrails, it connects millions of people to the outdoors. This role is an opportunity to shape a brand that genuinely matters to its audience.

This role is equal parts maker and mentor: someone who executes creative with impeccable craft and insight, while raising the bar and modeling best practices for the team around them. You’ll lead by example—producing best-in-class brand creative and campaigns that resonate strongly with our audience, all while building a team culture of creativity and meticulous execution.

Due to high candidate volume and to ensure our hiring team has sufficient time to give every application the attention it deserves, we have set a closing date of November 6th for this position.

What you’ll be doing

  • Act as a Creative Leader on the Brand Design team, setting an example, continually raising the bar while generating original and highly crafted creative that is grounded in thoughtful insights.

  • Lead the development of evergreen assets that shape our brand visual language - including overall art direction, expressive graphic treatments, color and typographic application, illustration, photo/video, and motion

  • Partner with Design Leadership to push the continual  development and evolution of the AllTrails visual brand, defining how we show up in the world at scale

  • Concept and execute global integrated campaigns across various channels and surfaces including digital, social, lifecycle, OOH, film, experiential, and in-product

  • Work in collaboration with Creative Leadership, marketing leads, and cross-functional stakeholders to create campaigns that build love for the AllTrails brand and product

  • Make design decisions confidently and quickly, ensuring they are based on a deep understanding of the project's goals, audience insight, and business context

  • Lead design exercises, workshops, and drive internal alignment on principles and ideas that elevate brand design at AllTrails

  • Think deeply about and research business problems to develop core creative ideas that translate into successful executions

  • Contribute to a respectful and collaborative team environment that cultivates a culture of creativity.

What you bring

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience leading global brand campaigns, in either an agency or in-house studio setting, preferably for a SaaS company, app, or digital product

  • Experience leading projects in a senior creative role such as a Design Lead, Art Director, or Senior Designer

  • Extensive experience concepting and designing compelling creative across multiple mediums, formats, environments, and surfaces

  • Strong, precise  execution of the core fundamentals of visual design, including typography, layout, color, form, and composition

  • Outstanding portfolio demonstrating highly crafted design work and demonstrated success in building unique and interesting creative that resonates deeply with audiences

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively articulate and sell creative decisions, as well as manage feedback from stakeholders

  • Exceptional conceptual and brainstorming skills, with a preference for a blue-sky, out-of-the-box approach to idea generation

  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to self-edit, iterate, test ideas, and bring constructive feedback to work across the creative team

  • Extensive experience collaborating with copywriters, designers, and marketing strategists to develop campaigns and brand storytelling

  • Experience at a fast-paced remote-first company where autonomy and proactiveness are key contributors to success

  • A highly developed aesthetic sensibility and taste, and a deep knowledge of the current and historic creative landscape, with a solid understanding of design trends and culture

  • A deep knowledge of Figma, Adobe CC, and other creative platforms and tools

  • Strong grasp of design systems and how to deploy flawless creative at scale

  • Empathy for the customer and for individuals on a creative team

Bonus points

  • Experience with no-code design  tools like Framer or Webflow

  • Experience using  AI tools such as Midjourney, Runway, Gemini and ChatGPT to improve efficiency, work at scale, and unlock new creative processes

  • Passion for the outdoors or deep interest in outdoor culture

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive and equitable compensation, including ownership through equity and performance-based bonuses

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
