Job Description:

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money— we're here to move our global customers forward.
We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.

About the Role:

Remitly is evolving from a single-product remittance company into a global financial ecosystem — and our brand must evolve with it. We're looking for a Director of Brand to own that transformation: defining what Remitly stands for in its next chapter, building a visual identity system that scales across products and markets, and ensuring that strategy and design work as one coherent, enduring brand.

This is a build role. It sits at the intersection of brand strategy and brand identity — responsible for both the thinking and the system. You'll manage a Principal Brand Strategist and agency partners while serving as a trusted creative and strategic partner to VPs and senior leadership. The work is complex, the stakes are real, and the impact is tangible.

This is a hybrid role based in Seattle, WA, with an in-office expectation of at least 3 days per week.

You Will:

  • Define and evolve Remitly's brand positioning, emotional territory, messaging frameworks, and brand architecture as we scale into a multi-product ecosystem
  • Own Remitly's visual identity and brand system — ensuring it is consistent, scalable, and expressive across products, markets, and channels
  • Lead a large, complex brand evolution workstream spanning research, strategy, identity, design, rollout, and activation
  • Partner with strategic brand and identity agencies — setting direction, evaluating work, and ensuring outputs are insight-led and operationally usable
  • Establish brand health tracking, quarterly measurement cadences, and clear goals around awareness, trust, and emotional connection
  • Build practical brand frameworks, guidelines, and governance models that enable proactive brand leadership across the company
  • Lead Remitly's approach to AI for brand work — defining principles, boundaries, and high-value use cases
  • Develop and manage the Principal Brand Strategist, providing clear direction and meaningful growth opportunities
  • Operate as a strategic partner across Product, Creative, Comms, Growth, Research, and Regional teams

You Have:

  • 10+ years in brand strategy, brand identity, or integrated brand roles — ideally within high-growth, multi-product, or global businesses
  • Proven experience owning both brand strategy and brand identity — not one or the other
  • A strong track record leading complex brand evolutions including positioning, architecture, and visual identity work
  • Extensive experience managing strategic and creative agencies
  • Strong visual judgment — you don't need to be a designer, but you can evaluate and direct identity work with confidence
  • Experience managing and developing direct reports
  • Comfort making confident, data-informed decisions without perfect information
  • An AI-first mindset — you see AI as a creative and strategic partner, not a threat
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or mission-driven consumer brands is a plus
