Lead the business of marketing for one of the world's most iconic gaming franchises. As Director, Marketing Strategy & Operations (Chief of Staff), you will serve as the strategic and operational partner to the Head of Marketing, helping shape how the Minecraft Marketing organization plans, operates, and scales for impact. You will work closely with the Marketing Leadership Team, Mojang leadership, and cross-functional partners to drive alignment, strengthen operating rhythms, and ensure Marketing is effectively represented in key studio planning and governance processes, including go-to-market reviews, business reviews, program reviews, and annual planning.

This role leads critical functions including organizational planning, budget management, operational excellence, and team effectiveness, helping teams navigate complexity and execute with clarity. Success requires strong judgment, exceptional collaboration, and the ability to bring structure, momentum, and accountability to a fast-moving global organization.

Responsibilities

Lead Marketing Business Management

Serve as the strategic and operational partner to the Head of Marketing. Drive leadership team effectiveness, organizational planning, governance, and execution. Ensure priorities, decisions, and commitments are translated into clear actions and measurable outcomes.

Drive Studio Integration and Cross-Functional Alignment

Ensure Marketing is fully connected to Mojang's operating model, including planning cycles, Greenlights, Program Reviews, GTM Reviews, business reviews, and leadership forums. Represent Marketing priorities across key cross-functional discussions and strengthen alignment between Marketing and Studio leadership.

Enable Strategic Planning and Team Operations

Lead the operating rhythms, planning processes, and management systems that help the Marketing organization execute effectively. Support annual planning, leadership offsites, organizational priorities, and strategic initiatives while ensuring teams have the clarity, coordination, and accountability needed to deliver results.

Lead Budget Management and Operational Excellence

Drive effective budget management across the Marketing organization, including annual planning, monthly and quarterly reviews, forecasting, and spend governance. Establish and improve the processes, tools, and operating mechanisms that help teams navigate Microsoft budgeting, supplier, procurement, and purchase order requirements, while increasing visibility, accountability, and operational efficiency.

Drive Organizational Effectiveness and Leadership Enablement

Serve as a trusted advisor to the Head of Marketing and Marketing Leadership Team on organizational effectiveness, talent planning, onboarding, leadership development, and team health. Partner with HR and team leaders to support workforce planning, organizational design discussions, succession planning, hiring priorities, and the long-term effectiveness of the Marketing organization.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in business management, chief of staff, strategy and operations, business planning, or related leadership roles.
  • Experience partnering with leaders and leadership teams to drive organizational planning, operational excellence, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Experience leading Rhythm of Business (ROB) processes, planning cycles, governance forums, or organizational operating models.
  • Experience managing budgets, business operations, or organizational processes in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across teams and drive alignment without direct authority.
  • Experience supporting an executive or leadership team as a Business Manager, Chief of Staff, or Strategy & Operations leader.
  • Experience working across marketing, product, business strategy, finance, or studio organizations.
  • Experience leading organizational change, workforce planning discussions, onboarding programs, or operating model improvements.
  • Experience in gaming, entertainment, consumer technology, or a global brand-led organization.

Business Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
