The Director, Operations & Process Excellence is a senior leadership role within the Business Improvement Office responsible for defining and driving the strategic direction, execution priorities, and performance outcomes across the TMS Business Unit.

This role sets the operational strategy and portfolio vision, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives and long-term growth ambitions. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to BU and enterprise leadership, shaping critical decisions, driving cross-functional alignment at scale, and ensuring disciplined execution of initiatives that materially impact business performance.

The position has end-to-end accountability for the strategic initiative portfolio, including prioritization, governance, resource alignment, and value realization. It requires a leader who can translate enterprise strategy into actionable roadmaps, influence at the executive level, and lead through complexity and ambiguity.

The ideal candidate is a strategic enterprise leader with strong business acumen, capable of setting direction, mobilizing organizations, and delivering measurable business outcomes across a diverse portfolio of initiatives.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategic Leadership & Business Direction

    • Define and set the operational strategy and long-term roadmap for the TMS Business Unit in alignment with enterprise priorities
    • Lead annual and multi-year strategic planning processes, ensuring clear priorities, investment focus, and measurable outcomes
    • Serve as a key advisor to BU and senior executive leadership, shaping business direction, growth strategies, and transformation agendas
    • Own evaluation and prioritization of strategic investments, including business development, partnerships, and M&A opportunities
    • Provide forward-looking, enterprise-level insights on performance, market dynamics, and competitive positioning

Portfolio Oversight & Governance

    • Own and lead the end-to-end strategic initiative portfolio, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and delivery of measurable business value
    • Establish and enforce governance frameworks, decision rights, and operating cadence across initiatives
    • Drive prioritization, trade-off decisions, and resource allocation across competing initiatives at the BU level
    • Ensure clear accountability, execution rigor, and value realization across all strategic initiatives
    • Provide regular executive-level reporting and insights on portfolio performance, risks, and opportunities

Decision Support & Executive Advisory

    • Act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to executive leadership, shaping high-impact decisions
    • Lead executive forums and decision-making processes, ensuring alignment, clarity, and timely outcomes
    • Deliver insight-driven recommendations supported by rigorous analysis and financial evaluation
    • Influence decisions across enterprise stakeholders, driving alignment in complex and ambiguous situations

Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment

    • Lead cross-functional alignment at scale, partnering with leaders across Development, Sales, Finance, IT, and other functions
    • Drive enterprise-wide collaboration to ensure cohesive execution of strategy
    • Resolve complex interdependencies and organizational barriers, ensuring forward momentum on critical initiatives
    • Build strong, trusted relationships with senior leaders across the organization

Operational Excellence & Capability Building

    • Define and institutionalize best-in-class frameworks, tools, and operating models for strategy execution and portfolio management
    • Drive continuous improvement and transformation initiatives to enhance scalability, efficiency, and performance
    • Build and lead high-performing teams (directly or through influence), developing strategic, analytical, and execution capabilities
    • Establish a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement across the Business Unit
    • Serve as a mentor and leader of leaders, elevating organizational capability

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Life Sciences, or related field required. Masters’s in Business, Economics, Finance, Operations, Health Management preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in analytical, strategy, operations, project management, or business improvement roles required
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment with cross-functional and cross-BU stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple complex initiatives and guiding work across cross‑functional resources
  • Strong analytical and finance capabilities, including proficiency in MS Office to synthesize quantitative and qualitative inputs into executive-level recommendations.
  • Experience conducting primary and secondary research, data analysis, and documentation to support business cases, operational improvements, and decision-making.
  • Proven ability to operate with limited direction, manage ambiguity, and influence outcomes through structured thinking and collaboration
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or MedTech preferred
  • Management Consulting, Investment Banking, PE/VC or internal advisory experience a plus
  • Ability to travel 25-30%

  • Ability to create financial statements and NPV models for business cases as well as M&A and strategic partnerships
