About Aurelian

Aurelian automates non-emergency calls for 9-1-1 centers. We do this through an AI-powered operator that routes, triages, and resolves calls without the need for human intervention. By doing this, we let 9-1-1 dispatchers focus their time and energy where it’s needed most: actual emergencies.

Nationwide, the average emergency communications center (ECC) is 30% understaffed. Staffing shortages have lead to call-taker burnout and attrition, which is exacerbating the problem even more. Post COVID, wait times for 9-1-1 calls have reached a boiling point; imagine, in the most stressful situation of your life, waiting on hold for over a minute.

But what’s most shocking is 60-80% of the calls 9-1-1 operators take aren’t even emergencies. They’re administrative calls that have been punted to ECCs: noise complaints, lost dogs, paying parking tickets, etc. Our conversational AI answers these administrative calls, reducing hold times, and freeing up human operators to deal with emergent situations.

Aurelian is currently live in centers across the country, and answers thousands of non-emergency calls every day. We are hiring people to help us continue to scale and make real positive impact on public safety infrastructure in the US.

Why Join Us:

We’re hiring our first Engineering Manager to help shape the direction of our engineering organization as we build state-of-the-art multimodal conversational AI systems that help save lives.

You’ll partner directly with our CTO to scale the team and drive both strategy and execution - building and delivering on our roadmap, and leading an organization focused on technical excellence, career development, performance management, and accountability.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Manage a team of software engineers at varying levels of experience.

  • Partner closely across the organization to design, build, and deploy key product features.

  • Bring clarity and structure to complex problems, ensuring engineering efforts align with long-term goals and measurable outcomes.

  • Support individual growth through mentorship, regular feedback, and career development.

  • Collaborate with leadership to set priorities, define strategy, and deliver against company objectives.

  • Foster a culture of ownership, communication, accountability, and technical rigor across the team.

Who We’re Looking For:
  • Prior experience as a software engineer and currently in a management position.

  • A strong sense of ownership and attention to quality in execution and output.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and deliver high-quality releases.

  • Strong understanding of business goals and the ability to translate them into actionable engineering plans.

  • Experience mentoring, managing performance, and supporting professional growth.

  • A bias for action - capable of making informed decisions and driving progress amid ambiguity.

  • Experience recruiting and growing teams across multiple technical disciplines.

  • Excellent communication and planning skills, with the ability to anticipate risks and provide clear direction.

Nice to Haves:
  • Experience working in a startup or fast-growing environment.

If you’re eager to make technology that matters and want to shape the future of emergency communications, we’d love to hear from you!

Benefits
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance coverage

  • Unlimited PTO

  • WFH stipend for home office

  • Relocation stipend

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
