ABOUT RETOOL
Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software for critical operations like tracking performance metrics, handling customer support workflows, building admin dashboards, and countless other processes you might not have even thought of. But most companies don't have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.
At Retool, we’re building the first enterprise AppGen platform: software that transforms natural language into production-ready code, integrates directly with business data, and meets the highest standards of security and governance. AI is redefining what it means to build software—and who gets to build it. The definition of “developer” now includes analysts, operators, and domain experts creating solutions directly. As the pool of builders widens, so does the complexity of what they need to build. The opportunity is enormous, but so is the challenge of enabling this larger community to build production-grade software safely. That means AI that understands real business data, enforces enterprise policies automatically, and empowers teams to create once and reuse everywhere with shared, trusted components.
Over 100 million hours of work has been automated by developers and domain experts using our platform, freeing them to focus on creative problem-solving and strategic initiatives that drive real business value. The people closest to knowing what needs to be built can now safely create custom solutions within enterprise guardrails. And that's a mission worth striving for.
Let's build the future together!
WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU
Retool is growing fast, and our legal function needs to keep pace. We're looking for a commercial lawyer who moves quickly, communicates clearly, and is genuinely energized by helping a business close deals and scale its operations without unnecessary legal drag. This is a hands-on, high-impact role reporting to the Senior Corporate Counsel. You'll play a key role in supporting our commercial contracting work, partnering closely with our sales team, leading our vendor contract program, and helping build the legal ops infrastructure – playbooks, templates, processes. If you enjoy solving problems and finding practical, scalable solutions and want to work somewhere that treats legal as a business enabler rather than a checkpoint — this role is for you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Serve as a key legal contact for our sales team on commercial transactions by reviewing, revising, and negotiating MSAs, DPAs, order forms, and NDAs
- Lead vendor contract reviews, partnering with internal stakeholders who own the vendor relationship
- Help build and maintain our commercial legal infrastructure, including contract intake workflows, contract templates, playbooks, and process documentation, and identify opportunities to leverage AI to improve efficiency and scale
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Trust, and other internal teams to provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance on day-to-day operational matters
- Stay current on legal developments affecting AI technologies and evolving laws and regulations relevant to our business
- Support our Senior Corporate Counsel on special projects and matters as needed
THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING
- J.D. and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 3-5 years of in-house or law firm experience, with meaningful exposure to commercial contracts in a B2B SaaS environment across both customer and vendor relationships
- Familiarity with privacy law frameworks, including GDPR and CCPA, as they arise in commercial transactions
- Comfort with high-volume, quick-turn commercial work and the ability to prioritize and execute independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort translating legal concepts for non-lawyer audiences
- Genuine curiosity about AI tools and legal tech, with a willingness to leverage them to work more efficiently
- Experience with contract management systems such as Ironclad or similar a plus
