Job Description:

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money— we're here to move our global customers forward.
We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.

About the Role:

Remitly moves money for millions of customers across more than 170 countries. Maintaining trust at a global scale at the pace of money movement is the core mission of our Financial Crimes program. This role leads the center of excellence responsible for finding the most sophisticated financial crime actors operating today: human trafficking and forced labor networks, sanctions evasion structures, transnational fraud syndicates, terrorist financing, and professional money laundering organizations. You will drive Remitly's global financial crime intelligence and strategic investigations capability: the deep subject matter authority on high risk typologies, the owner of Remitly's relationships with law enforcement and financial intelligence units worldwide, and the driver of detection, mitigation, and reporting strategy for the most complex financial crimes.

You will define your own operating model, the analytic tradecraft, the intelligence product set, and the external engagement posture.

You Will:

Typology and threat intelligence

  • Own Remitly's authoritative view of high risk financial crime typologies across corridors, products, and channels, including the indicators and network signatures that make each one detectable.
  • Direct proactive intelligence work: geographic and typology-focused deep dives, illicit network mapping, and thematic reviews that surface risk existing controls miss.
  • Build an intelligence product set for internal and external consumption, with explicit confidence levels and analytic judgments that hold up under regulatory and law enforcement scrutiny.

Detection and mitigation strategy

  • Define the scenarios, segmentation, and model features required to detect typologies the current control environment misses, and partner with Transaction Monitoring, Data Science, and Engineering to build them.
  • Quantify and challenge coverage, identify false negative exposure, and drive remediation to closure.
  • Own the strategic investigations pipeline for the highest severity, most sensitive, and most novel matters, and refer findings into the business for control, product, and customer action.
  • Set the standard for how intelligence findings become durable controls rather than one-time case outcomes.

Law enforcement and FIU engagement

  • Serve as Remitly's senior point of contact for law enforcement, FIUs, and regulatory intelligence bodies across our operating jurisdictions.
  • Build trusted-partner relationships, including public-private information sharing partnerships, industry working groups, and typology forums.
  • Set governance around information sharing, legal process response, and proactive referrals in coordination with Legal.

Reporting and governance

  • Own reporting strategy for complex financial crime, including how findings escalate into suspicious activity reporting and how sensitive matters reach the Chief Compliance Officer, executive leadership, and board-level oversight.
  • Deliver intelligence briefings to senior audiences that are precise, decision-oriented, and free of overstatement.
  • Ensure intelligence and investigative work is documented to a standard that withstands examination, audit, and litigation.

Team and program

  • Build and lead a globally distributed team of intelligence analysts and senior investigators.
  • Define the tradecraft that makes the capability repeatable: analytic methodology, quality standards, documentation requirements, and training.
  • Operate the AI-enabled tooling and workflow for intelligence production, and set guardrails for how models support analytic judgment without replacing it.
  • Serve as the internal subject matter authority for Compliance, Product, Legal, Risk, and the business.

You Have:

  • 10+ years in financial crime, including significant time in a regulatory, law enforcement, or financial intelligence agency, or a comparable senior financial crime function at a global financial institution, payments company, or fintech.
  • Demonstrated depth in high risk typologies: human trafficking and forced labor, sanctions evasion, terrorist financing, transnational fraud, professional money laundering, or trade-based money laundering.
  • Direct experience building and sustaining law enforcement and FIU relationships, including legal process, information sharing frameworks, and public-private partnerships.
  • Track record leading complex or sensitive investigations end to end, including matters with regulatory, reputational, or litigation exposure.
  • Experience building a specialist intelligence or strategic investigations capability inside an established financial crimes program, including defining its mandate, standards, and interfaces with existing monitoring and investigative teams.
  • Proven ability to translate intelligence into detection logic and work credibly with data science and engineering partners on how it gets built. Hands-on fluency with SQL or equivalent.
  • Executive-grade communication. You can brief a board committee and a federal agent in the same week and be equally clear with both.
  • Sound judgment under ambiguity, with the discipline to state confidence levels honestly.
Preferred
  • Cross-border payments, money transmission, or remittance experience.
  • Multi-jurisdictional exposure across US, UK, EU, APAC, or LATAM regimes.
  • Blockchain analytics experience (Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic).
  • CAMS, CFCS, CFE, or equivalent.
