About Alka Intelligence

We are an asset management startup building a proprietary reasoning engine to automate fundamental analysis. We are building Alka Arbiter, a system capable of ingesting vast, unstructured market datasets and transforming them into clear, risk-weighted investment mandates. Unlike standard AI wrappers, our engine is designed to show its work, creating a fully auditable record of why a decision was made. We are looking for builders to help us bridge the gap between stochastic AI models and the rigorous reliability required to manage fiduciary capital.

Locations: San Francisco, CA

Role Status: Future Pipeline / General Interest / Advisory

Role Preview: The below are current v0.1 drafts for the roles we will be looking for in the near future

  • Interpretable Causality Researcher: https://shorturl.at/hZymM

  • Stateful World Model Researcher: https://shorturl.at/kV7kp

The Pipeline

If you are reading this, you likely encountered our Software Engineering roles on Wellfound. If your expertise lies in pure research or research advisory, and you are more interested in mapping the territory than laying the tracks, you belong here.

At Alka, Research and Engineering are intellectual sparring partners. Our engineers build the infrastructure, but our researchers tell them where it should go. We are actively scouting for academics, applied researchers, and senior advisors who can help us anticipate the next major paradigm shift in agentic AI.

Whether you are interested in a full-time research position down the line or a part-time advisory role today, we want to connect with you if you specialize in:

  • Ecosystem Intelligence: Tracking emergent orchestration frameworks and reasoning models before they hit the mainstream.

  • Agentic Ontology: Designing the cognitive logic, meta-prompts, and deterministic validation loops for autonomous agents.

  • Systemic Risk & Assurance: Breaking AI systems, identifying hallucination vectors, and building fiduciary-grade guardrails.

How to Initiate Contact:

Skip the standard cover letter. To enter our research and advisory pipeline, please submit a brief introduction containing:

  1. Your Capacity: Let us know if you are looking for a full-time research trajectory or a part-time advisory position.

  2. Show Your Work: Provide links to your Google Scholar, GitHub, Substack, published papers, or open-source frameworks. Let your history speak for itself.

  3. Short Answer: Briefly describe a recent moment where a new piece of research, a framework, or an experiment fundamentally shattered your previous mental model about AI agents. What was your assumption, what broke it, and how did your thinking change? (Max 300 words).

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
