Salary range is $21.63/hour to $54.32/hour with a midpoint of $37.02/hour. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE: 

Reporting to the Manager – Internal & Executive Communications, the Internal Communications Coordinator works under general direction to support the development and delivery of internal-facing communications and events. Provides writing, editing, basic graphic designs, event planning, and technical intranet support to the entire internal communications team. Must possess strong organizational and relationship-building skills, and exhibit developing project management skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Provides general support for intranet maintenance and implementation; helps contributors with intranet technical support and consulting; monitors two-way engagement on intranet platform.
  • Supports migration to new intranet platforms as applicable.
  • Produces and copyedits employee-facing content, and supports layout on the intranet as directed by Sr. Internal Communications Specialist 
  • Provides planning support for client communications; coordinates work plans; tracks deliverables, deadlines, and assignments; facilitates review cycles.
  • Provides editing support on internal documents such as guidelines, reports, handbooks and procedures.
  • Supports, plans, and executes production for employee-facing events including staff appreciation events and all-staff meetings (virtual, hybrid, in-person). 
  • Champions and models Sound Transit's core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.
  • Contributes to a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in alignment with Sound Transit’s Equity & Inclusion Policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications, or closely related field. Three years of editorial and writing experience working in the journalism, marketing, event planning, or communications field; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation, including AP writing style and plain talk standards.
  • Principles of research, writing, editing.
  • Technical competence with Office 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint) and online cloud editing tools.
  • Cultural diversity and sensitivity.
  • Utilizing personal computer software programs affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets and reports.
  • Establishing relationships and working collaboratively with teams across disciplines to meet deadlines and produce quality products.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and able to multitask
  • Applying problem-solving techniques.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and communicating with tact and diplomacy.
  • Responding to inquiries in effective oral and written communication.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Management of employee-facing websites, intranets, and other collaborative technologies.
  • Principles of data collection and analysis for web and email platforms.
  • Canva, Adobe CC suite or other graphic design software.
  • Project management.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:  

  • Work is performed in a hybrid office environment.
