Lead the Toronto operations team, focusing on team performance, workflow design, and efficiency through AI tools, while managing escalations and cross-functional coordination.
About the role:
Opendoor is hiring a Manager, Operations to lead our Toronto-based operations team. This is a hands-on management role: you'll own the performance and development of a team of Operations Specialists while actively shaping how the function operates in a rapidly evolving, AI-native environment.
You'll be in the work, designing systems, debugging escalations, improving workflows alongside AI tools, and building the playbook for how operations run at scale while coaching, and managing the impact and performance of the team.
What you’ll do:You'll be in the work, designing systems, debugging escalations, improving workflows alongside AI tools, and building the playbook for how operations run at scale while coaching, and managing the impact and performance of the team.
- Lead and develop a team of Operations Specialists across operational workflows
- Own team performance: set expectations, manage throughput, and ensure the team is meeting SLAs and transaction deadlines
- Design and iterate on workflows in partnership with operations leads, incorporating AI tooling to continuously improve efficiency and accuracy
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex cases that require judgment beyond the specialist level
- Coordinate cross-functionally with acquisition, renovation, resale, and finance teams
- Partner with R&D and ops AI teams to identify automation opportunities, test new tools, and give feedback on what's working
- Build the culture of the team: hire people who want to work with AI, move fast, and improve the work every day
- Be the single accountable person for your function in Toronto
- Hands-on comfort with AI tools and technology; you actively use AI in your own work and can coach a team to do the same
- Proven experience managing operations teams, in high-volume, deadline-driven environments
- Experience building or scaling operations teams; you know how to set culture and norms early
- Strong operational instincts: you can look at a workflow and quickly identify what's broken, what should be automated, and what needs a human
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; you'll be the bridge between Toronto execution and US-based teams
- High accountability and bias toward action; you fix problems before they become someone else's escalation
- Comfortable in ambiguity; processes are still being built and you'll be a primary architect of how this team operates
- Opendoor is actively consolidating its internal tooling stack; comfort with new systems and change is essential
