An overview of this role

GitLab is looking for a Manager, Strategic Finance to join our Strategic Finance team. This role focuses on financial planning, analysis, and business operations. You’ll lead modeling for long-range bookings forecasts and help shape earnings guidance and recommendations for GitLab executives and the Board of Directors. Reporting to a Director, you’ll work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, executive leaders, and partners across Product, Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations, and Engineering.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and improve demand-based models for Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) growth and bookings, including seat, price, tier, customer retention, and consumption dynamics across GitLab’s products.
  • Manage the long-range financial model for bookings by product and forecast new business ARR and customer growth by geography and segment.
  • Develop new business targets and assessments that support Marketing, Sales Development Representatives, Account Executives, and Partners.
  • Build and govern business cases for new product offerings, including artificial intelligence products and strategic partnerships, in collaboration with Finance, Product, Sales Strategy, Marketing, and Engineering.
  • Support pricing and packaging strategy through reporting, price-change assessment, and scenario modeling.
  • Assess GitLab’s market opportunity and market landscape, assess why GitLab wins and loses deals, and link customer demand to product and growth priorities.
  • Assess unit economics across customer segments and geographies, including lifetime value, customer acquisition cost, payback periods, marketing return on investment, and gross margin by product line.
  • Advise on strategic deals and partnerships, assess product key performance indicators, and explain how adoption trends may affect bookings and future financial performance.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience in strategic finance, investment banking, private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, management consulting, a technology startup, or a similarly analytical role.
  • A strategic thinker with broad business acumen and a passion for software and AI technologies and their commercialization
  • Self starter with an ownership mentality who thrives in ambiguity and delivers insights to executives in a thoughtful and persuasive manner
  • Strong financial modeling skills and experience building new models and processes from scratch, improving existing ones, and structuring ambiguous business questions from fundamentals.
  • Experience translating complex data into clear, polished recommendations for executive audiences.
  • Define problems, manage multiple time-sensitive projects, and deliver rigorous work with limited direction.
  • Build cross-functional relationships and work effectively through high-stakes or changing priorities.
  • Clear communication, respect for teammates, and a team-first approach to collaboration.
  • Familiarity with Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, or consumption-based pricing is helpful but not required.

We welcome candidates with different combinations of relevant experience and transferable skills. If you’re excited about the role but don’t meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
