The Manager, Category Management – Marketplace sits within digital and is responsible for achieving Nordstrom customer outcomes focused on driving product sales within designated categories. The Manager grows GMV by strategically developing Marketplace sellers post-launch, using industry insights and internal and external inputs to shape category strategy that supports customer growth.
We are looking for someone who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves — defining and building new processes for the team and cross-functional partners, working comfortably with large data sets and undefined problems. The Manager works closely with NMG, Digital Merchandising, Ecommerce Merchandising, and the broader Marketplace team to support sellers and company goals.
The Manager owns end-to-end assortment and promotional strategy for their category, sets clear OKRs, and is accountable for team results. They lead a team of translating category strategy into clear workstreams for each person and investing in their development and performance. The Manager leads WBRs and MBRs with NMG and partner teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own and inform subdivision assortment plans, setting AOR strategy and initiatives that align to total MP priorities; drive category strategy and acquisition strategy by identifying and prioritizing whitespace opportunities
- Analyze data and connect with Acquisition on new performance signals to inform quarterly replans; build category-level forecasts that identify gaps and surface sourcing priorities across your AOR
- Lead Scaled Events strategy, planning, and seller outreach at scale; serve as rotating Scaled Events captain and establish enticed savings events – setting category + seller strategy and impact to plan
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with senior NMG leadership, serving as Liaison to NMG and Liaison for Acquisition; partner with Onboarding Liaison and eComm Merch to align go-to-market strategies and ensure seamless seller integration at scale
- Optimize relationships with T1 Sellers and Strategic T2 accounts through structured connects and business reviews; set seasonal and hallmark curated category strategy, highlighting key categories and sellers (existing + in pipeline) to drive competitive selection and best-in-class customer experience
- Partner with Digital Merchandising on high-heat brand launches and large-scale site visibility initiatives; work cross-functionally across Buying, Customer Care, Marketing, and Product Management to build efficiencies, advocate for sellers, and enhance internal capabilities across the team
- Lead, develop, and manage a team– deploying each team member’s strengths against the right category priorities, coaching individuals to grow their skills, and creating clear accountability structures so the team drives results across seller support, assortment execution, and scaled events

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent work experience, required
- 5+ years professional experience in a large matrixed organization, with 1+ years managing or mentoring teams
- Proficiency with date-driven decision-making skills and technology systems required
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, build efficiencies at scale, and prioritize smartly across competing opportunities to drive measurable business outcomes
- Experience in retail merchandising, assortment planning, or promotional strategy as a merchant, seller/brand, or digital merchandiser; experience managing scaled events or large promotional campaigns a plus
- Comfortable with constant change, building and iterating processes regularly
- Strong relationship management skills with demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and cultivate high-value external seller partnerships
