Do you know what makes thumbs stop on social?

Do you have strong opinions about why a TikTok, Reel, or Short actually works — and the judgment to know which trends a brand should touch?

Could you walk up to a stranger on campus, ask a great question on camera, and make the whole thing feel natural and fun?

If so, we want to meet you.

OfferUp is looking for a summer intern to join our brand and social team. You'll help us brainstorm, brief, capture, and execute social-first creative that brings the OfferUp marketplace to life, especially for Gen Z and young millennial audiences. That means spotting trends and cultural moments OfferUp can credibly join, shaping short-form video concepts, running lightweight man-on-the-street interviews, and bringing a fresh point of view on resale, local discovery, side hustles, and everyday life.

This is not just a "make TikToks all summer" internship. We want someone excited by creative who's also curious about the business behind it: how consumer behavior works, how brands grow, how campaigns get measured, and how a marketplace earns attention, trust, and relevance. You don't need to be the next rising TikTok star — in fact, we're not looking for someone who only wants the spotlight. We're looking for someone who wants to learn how a brand turns attention into real growth.

This role reports to our Social Media Manager and will have regular touchpoints with growth marketing leadership.

What you'll do
  • Brainstorm and develop ideas for the organic social calendar alongside our social team.
  • Identify trends, formats, creators, and conversations OfferUp can authentically participate in.
  • Support short-form video concepts for TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts, and beyond — capturing or appearing in content depending on your comfort and fit.
  • Run lightweight man-on-the-street interviews on campus or in local communities.
  • Help with briefs, shot lists, content organization, and basic production coordination.
  • Monitor what's resonating, and get exposure to paid creative testing, campaign operations, and performance analysis.
What we’re looking for
  • A student or recent grad interested in marketing, social, brand, creative strategy, or consumer tech.
  • Deep familiarity with how people actually consume and share content today across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Strong creative instincts and the ability to explain why an idea will or won't land.
  • Good judgment, clockwork reliability, and a proactive, low-ego, high-energy approach.
Bonus points if you
  • Have made short-form content for yourself, a club, a small business, or a brand — or have experience interviewing people, editing video, or writing hooks and captions.
  • Are comfortable on camera.
  • Have a real perspective on resale, thrifting, sustainability, local shopping, dorm/apartment setup, or how Gen Z finds deals.
  • Are the person your friends trust to be up on the latest trends in social.

Compensation: The hourly rate for this internship is $24– $27. Placement within this range is based on academic standing, relevant coursework or prior internship experience, and demonstrated skills applicable to the role.

This is a non-benefits-eligible internship. No additional compensation beyond hourly wages is offered.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
