Job Description:

The Mars Global Indirect Tax Data & North America Lead is responsible for leading North America indirect tax requirements and the global indirect tax data strategy within a SAP S/4HANA transformation program. The role serves as the primary Tax SME for U.S. and Canada indirect tax processes, tax determination, tax reporting, tax data governance, and tax technology solutions, including ONESOURCE Tax Engine, ONESOURCE Compliance, and related reporting platforms.  The individual partners with Tax, Finance, Master Data, IT, Data & Analytics, Shared Services, Procurement, Supply Chain, and System Integrators to ensure tax-sensitive data is accurately captured, governed, and made available to support indirect tax determination, compliance reporting, audit readiness, and business intelligence. The role is accountable for North America indirect tax deployment activities while establishing global data standards supporting indirect tax compliance across all regions.


What are we Looking For?

  • 10+ years of indirect tax experience in multinational corporations, Big Four firms, or tax technology consulting environments.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. sales and use tax and Canadian GST/HST, PST, and QST requirements.
  • Significant experience with ONESOURCE or Vertex Tax Engine
  • Significant experience with indirect tax return reporting platforms.
  • Experience supporting SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA transformation programs.
  • Strong understanding of indirect tax reporting, reconciliations, and audit support processes.
  • Experience with tax master data, tax data analytics, and data governance programs.
  • Knowledge of Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, Intercompany, Inventory, and Record-to-Report processes.
  • Experience gathering requirements, reviewing solution designs, and leading business testing activities.
  • Strong understanding of tax-related data structures within SAP S/4HANA.
  • Experience supporting multi-country deployments within a global template model.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across Tax, Finance, IT, Data Governance, Master Data, and Shared Services organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cross-functional transformation initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • CPA, MST, CMI, MBA, or other relevant professional certification preferred.
  • Preferred SAP S/4HANA Transformation Experience:
    • Led North America indirect tax workstreams within a global SAP S/4HANA deployment.
    • Designed and implemented ONESOURCE Tax Engine integrations with SAP S/4HANA.
    • Implemented ONESOURCE Compliance, SAP DRC, or other indirect tax reporting solutions.
    • Defined tax data governance standards for global ERP transformations.
    • Developed tax reporting and analytics capabilities leveraging enterprise data platforms.
    • Led tax testing, deployment readiness, cutover, and hypercare activities.
    • Collaborated with Master Data, Data Governance, Finance, and IT teams to improve tax data quality.
    • Established scalable indirect tax operating models supporting global template deployments.
    • Supported audit readiness and indirect tax compliance initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.

What are the Key Responsibilities?

North America Indirect Tax Leadership

  • Serve as the primary SME for U.S. and Canadian indirect tax requirements within the SAP S/4HANA program.
  • Lead North America requirements gathering, design reviews, testing, and deployment activities.
  • Define business requirements for sales and use tax, GST/HST, PST, QST, and other indirect tax obligations.
  • Partner with Finance, Procurement, Sales, Supply Chain, and Shared Services teams to ensure indirect tax compliance requirements are embedded into business processes.
  • Support tax-related design decisions across P2P, O2C, Intercompany, Inventory, and R2R processes.
  • Lead North America tax testing, defect remediation, business validation, and deployment readiness activities.

Global Tax Data Strategy & Governance

  • Establish global indirect tax data requirements, standards, and governance processes.
  • Define tax-sensitive master data requirements including material, customer, vendor, plant, legal entity, and tax classification attributes.
  • Partner with Data Governance and Master Data teams to improve tax data quality and controls.
  • Define tax data ownership, stewardship, validation, and monitoring processes.
  • Identify tax data gaps and drive remediation activities across regions and business functions.
  • Support development of tax reporting data models and tax analytics capabilities.

Tax Technology & Reporting

  • Lead business requirements for ONESOURCE Tax Engine and tax determination processes.
  • Support design and testing of tax engine integrations with SAP S/4HANA.
  • Define requirements for indirect tax reporting solutions, including ONESOURCE Compliance, SAP DRC, and other reporting technologies.
  • Establish reporting requirements supporting indirect tax returns, audits, reconciliations, and compliance monitoring.
  • Partner with Analytics and IT teams to develop indirect tax dashboards and reporting capabilities.
  • Support automation initiatives related to tax reporting, reconciliation, and compliance monitoring.

Governance & Program Management

  • Lead tax workstream governance activities for North America.
  • Manage tax risks, issues, design decisions, and dependencies.
  • Provide executive reporting on tax deployment readiness, data quality, compliance risks, and key decisions.
  • Support organizational change management, training, and business readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with regional tax leads to harmonize global indirect tax standards and processes.

  • Tax reporting process flows, reports, and reconciliation requirements.
  • Compliance monitoring and audit-support procedures.
  • Tax control framework and audit readiness documentation.

Testing & Deployment

  • Tax testing strategy and test scenarios.
  • UAT scripts, execution results, and defect resolution tracking.
  • Deployment readiness assessments and go-live approvals.
  • Hypercare and post-production support plans.
  • Training materials and user guidance documentation.

Program Governance

  • Executive status updates and tax workstream reporting.
  • Tax risk, issue, decision, and dependency logs.
  • Global tax standards and governance documentation.
  • Continuous improvement roadmap for indirect tax processes and reporting.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
