Newsweek is the global media organization that has earned audience time and trust for more than 90 years. Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia.

We’re launching a new era of storytelling at Newsweek—and we’re looking for the creators who will define it.

From high-impact video podcasts to binge-worthy digital docuseries, Newsweek is building a nimble, next-generation video team that will shape the way our stories are told across platforms. This isn’t just a production team—it’s a creative hub for bold ideas, boundary-pushing formats, and collaborative innovation.

If you’re a visual storyteller who thrives in fast-paced environments, thinks like a producer, shoots like a director, and edits like an artist—this is your moment. Join us as we build something fresh, flexible, and fearless.

We’re looking for a multifaceted Multimedia Editor with a sharp editorial sense, strong visual instincts, and expert post-production skills. The core responsibility of this role is editing, but you should be just as comfortable behind the camera and contributing to the creative process from pitch to publish. This is a hands-on role for a visual storyteller who thrives in both the field and the edit suite—someone who can take a concept and run with it, while working closely with producers, marketers, and creatives.

The ideal candidate comes with a strong background in digital video, documentary, or broadcast production—and a passion for crafting narratives that break through the noise. You’ll bring polish and precision to your edits, a cinematic eye to your shoots, and a collaborative spirit to every project. Bonus points for experience with motion graphics or animation.

If you’re hungry to tell great stories—and help build something exciting from the ground up—we want to hear from you.

Please provide work examples and website

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit high-quality video content with a strong narrative arc, incorporating sophisticated pacing, rhythm, and sound design.
  • Collaborate closely with producers and shooters to brainstorm story ideas, series formats, and filming strategies.
  • Independently own projects from ideation through delivery, with a clear vision for story and audience engagement.
  • Apply basic motion graphics and visual treatments that enhance storytelling and brand consistency.
  • Ensure all content meets platform-specific standards across digital and broadcast formats.
  • Operate within tight production timelines while maintaining top-tier quality.
  • Manage post-production workflows, including media ingest, asset management, and color correction
  • Shoot original video content using a cinematic and intentional approach to composition, lighting, and camera movement.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in digital video, broadcast production, or documentaries, ideally in a news organization, production company, or creative agency.
  • Strong experience in both camera operation and video editing.
  • Expert in editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro is required; After Effects and Photoshop are a plus).
  • Demonstrated expertise in story structure, visual pacing, and sound design.
  • Comfortable working independently from a producer to craft engaging stories.
  • Experience shooting on professional cameras (Canon, Sony, RED, etc.) with attention to visual storytelling.
  • Knowledge of motion graphics and ability to integrate basic graphic elements into edits.
  • Deep collaboration skills with producers, editors, and designers throughout the production lifecycle.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be willing to travel, including on nights and weekends, as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on short-form digital videos and long-form documentary features.
  • Familiarity with digital platform trends, visual formats for social media, and emerging storytelling techniques.
  • Capable of giving and receiving constructive feedback in a highly creative environment.

Salary range: $100,000 - $120,000

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
