Who we are.

Solo enables companies to Connect, Secure and Observe modern applications – APIs, Microservices and Data – with the industry’s leading API and Service Mesh Management Platform (“Gloo”). Solo innovations allow companies to stay on the leading edge of both technology and business possibilities.

Solo is a VC-backed company, founded in 2017 by Idit Levine. In 2021, Solo was valued at $1B. Solo’s customers are some of the largest in the world, spanning all geographies and industries. Solo’s team has deep expertise in AI, Cloud Computing, Linux, Containers, Kubernetes, Service Mesh, APIs, Security, Microservice Applications, Application Modernization, GraphQL, and eBPF.

About the role.

This role will have opportunities to advocate for both our cloud networking stack and our AI projects (Istio, kgateway, kagent, agentgateway, agentregistry), as the line between the two is beginning to fade. Become part of the our open source project community, active on community slack/discord, writing technical contents/blogs/workshops/webinars and speaking about these projects at conferences or meetups. You will have chances to work with end users and customers(answer their questions, solve their problems, write case stories), contribute to open source, and help shape the future of networking and AI infrastructure along with product and engineering to bridge the gap between Solo and community needs.

You will work with the latest cloud and container technologies like Kubernetes, Envoy, and Istio - as well as with AI tooling, protocols and standards like MCP, A2A and more! You will review end user and customer feedback in order to promote adoption and simplify usability of complex technology.

This role may require 10-30% travel to speak at conferences or meetups.

Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor work visas for this role at this time. While this is a remote role for applicants based in the US, Canada and UK, we may consider candidates in other regions with a proven, high-impact track record as technical leaders and influencers within the open source ecosystem.

Job Description:

  • Represent our open-source projects and the company externally through technical blogs, white papers, webinars, workshops, podcasts, newsletters, and conference talks focused on cloud network connectivity and agentic AI–native infrastructure.
  • Engage with the open-source community, industry partners, and standards bodies to help drive our open-source projects forward. Amplify the voice of our projects within the ecosystem by delivering a delightful end-user experience and collaborating with users to produce case studies, blogs, and conference presentations.
  • Serve as a bridge between end-user and customer needs, industry trends, and project and product development.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to prospects and customers, guiding adoption, best practices, and integration strategies. Develop and publish best-practice patterns for end users, prospects, and customers.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to improve our open-source projects and commercial offerings, influencing the roadmap through real-world customer feedback and market insights.

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience as a software engineer
  • 6+ years of experience creating technical content, such as blogs, workshops, YouTube videos, and conference talks
  • 5+ years of experience using social platforms such as LinkedIn, X and Bluesky to create engaging technical marketing content
  • Hands-on experience working with open-source communities
  • Experience with a broad range of open-source projects and standards, such as Kubernetes, Istio, NetworkPolicy, Agentic frameworks/infrastructure, MCP, and AI agents
  • Strong ability to learn quickly and adapt to rapid change
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience of cloud networking, connectivity, security, MCP, and agentic AI systems

Bonus Experience:

  • Experience with Istio or other service mesh platforms
  • Prior work on proxies or gateways such as Envoy Proxy
  • Familiarity with the Kubernetes Gateway API
  • Experience with agentic frameworks and protocols such as ADK, MCP, or A2A

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
