Job Overview
The Principal Business Development Manager at T-Mobile drives the identification and execution of transformative, enterprise-level partnerships that extend the company's reach beyond traditional telecom markets. This role shapes strategic direction by collaborating with executive stakeholders and providing actionable insights that influence long-term business decisions. By guiding cross-functional teams through complex and ambiguous challenges, ensures alignment and successful delivery of innovative business opportunities. The position serves as both a strategic architect and execution leader, mentoring peers and fostering scalable partnerships that strengthen T-Mobile's competitive advantage. Through these efforts, the role directly supplies sustainable growth, resilience, and the expansion of T-Mobile's ecosystem.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Originate, structure, and lead end-to-end execution of large-scale, highly complex, and often non-standard strategic partnerships that drive enterprise growth, competitive differentiation, and entry into new markets.
  • Proactively identify, create, and develop new business opportunities by synthesizing market trends, emerging technologies, customer needs, and ecosystem dynamics—often in ambiguous or undefined spaces.
  • Partner with senior and executive-level stakeholders to frame critical business decisions, align on strategic direction, and influence outcomes through clear, data-driven recommendations.
  • Establish and deepen senior-level relationships with key external partners and internal stakeholders to unlock new opportunities, drive deal momentum, and enhance long-term partnership value.
  • Build deep expertise in priority sectors and emerging areas (e.g., proprietary technologies, new adjacencies), and translate insights into actionable strategies that inform company direction.
  • Guide cross-functional teams through ambiguity to evaluate, structure, and operationalize opportunities—ensuring alignment across Product, Technology, Legal, Finance, and Marketing.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 7 years of related work experience
    OR a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent

Preferred Education:

  • MBA or advanced degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related fields.

Required Work Experience:

  • More than 10 years progressive experience in business development, alliance management, and/or strategic sales experience with financial/economic analysis preferably in consumer-focused wireless, high-tech (software, internet/new media, entertainment/content, AI, etc.) or consumer electronics industries.

Preferred Work Experience:

  • 2-4 years experience influencing C-level executives; experience in telecom, technology, or other fast-paced industries.

  • Executive Negotiation: Expert-level negotiation skills with the ability to lead complex, high-stakes, and non-standard deal discussions with senior executives, balancing value creation, risk, and long-term strategic positioning.
  • Financial Commercial Acumen: Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, valuation, and business case development; ability to structure economically sound and scalable partnership constructs that drive measurable business impact
  • Strategic Problem Solving: Ability to define and break down ambiguous, high-impact business challenges, develop clear strategic frameworks, and translate insights into actionable partnership strategies.
  • Executive Communication Storytelling: Outstanding ability to synthesize complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives and executive-ready presentations for senior leadership and external partners.
  • Influence Without Authority: Strong ability to align and mobilize cross-functional stakeholders and external partners through credibility, insight, and relationship leadership rather than formal authority.
  • Relationship Management: Proven ability to build and leverage senior-level relationships to originate opportunities, accelerate deal progression, and maximize long-term partnership value.
  • Market Insight Opportunity Identification: Deep understanding of industry trends, new technologies, and ecosystem dynamics; ability to translate insights into differentiated partnership opportunities.

Total Target Cash Earnings Opportunity: $159,120 - $287,040

National Base Pay Range: $132,600 - $239,200

The Total Target Cash Earnings Opportunity represents the expected total cash compensation for this role at target performance, combining base salary and annual incentive opportunity. Actual earnings may be higher or lower depending on individual performance and overall company results. 

The base pay range reflects the compensation component of this opportunity. The candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on individual and/or company performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance. The incentive component included in the Total Target Cash Earnings Opportunity reflects target performance. Actual earnings included in the Total Target Cash Earnings Opportunity reflect target performance; actual payouts may vary.
