Job Description
At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We're committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.
Who We Are
At Boeing Digital Services, we focus on practical innovation that drives tangible results for the aerospace industry. Our team leverages advanced technology and data analytics to develop solutions that enhance operational efficiency and meet the needs of our customers. We are dedicated to creating intuitive, scalable, and secure solutions that empower our customers, partners, and empowered team to succeed. Join us in creating the future of aviation technology, where your contributions will shape impactful solutions for airlines around the globe.
About the Role
We're looking for a Principal Developer-Builder (Level 5-Individual Contributor) who will own the end-to-end delivery of a product capability, helping design the solution and leading a small team of developers to build it.
You will work closely with Product, Design, and Technical Leads to understand the holistic vision and strategy of the product, and partner with a Product Manager and Designer to help execute the daily operations of your team. You will be accountable for the quality of what your team delivers, ensuring that it's in line with the technical strategy.
This role is a hybrid position (2-3 days per week) and can be worked out of either our: Seattle, WA; Denver, CO.
Position Responsibilities
Technical Delivery and Oversight
You'll own the technical scope for your product capability, shaping the architecture, driving implementation, and planning delivery with your team. That looks like:
  • Building full-stack, production-grade, cloud-native applications: frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, and the integrations that connect them across complex enterprise environments.
  • Writing and reviewing code across multiple languages and paradigms.
  • Designing event-driven and microservices architectures that can scale, evolve, and be operated by teams beyond the ones that built them.
  • Integrating AI, ML or LLM capabilities into your product.
  • Implementing CI/CD pipelines and delivery automation that give teams the confidence to ship frequently.
  • Making day-to-day architecture decisions within your product and escalating the right ones to the leadership team when they have broader implications.
  • Identifying technical risk early and surfacing it clearly before it becomes a delivery problem.
  • Generating ideas, failing fast, and demonstrating with key stakeholders.
  • Driving knowledge sharing across teams and the broader technical group.

Team and People
  • Serve as Builder Lead - guiding, coaching, instructing a small team of developers (ex: organizing work, breaking down tasks, pairing on hard problems, and keeping the team moving).
  • Guide and drive adoption of AI assisted development methods (such as agentic coding or SDD).
  • Uplift developers through code review, pairing, and day-to-day technical mentorship.

Upwards Communication
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for your product capability - representing the work clearly to your product, design, and technical leads.
  • Adapt quickly to change and shift focus as required to meet product needs.
  • Contribute to and provide technical documentation for your area of responsibility.

What We're Looking For You to Bring to the Table
  • Modern Software Development Expertise
  • Experience building and shipping full-stack applications in production.
  • Depth in at least one part of the stack and enough breadth to work across frontend, backend, APIs, and cloud-hosted services.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks.
  • Ability to write clean, testable, production-quality code.
  • Experience making architecture decisions under technical, organizational, and delivery constraints.
  • Ability to document tradeoffs, explain decisions clearly, and remain accountable for production outcomes.
  • Experience working in enterprise environments with distributed/disparate systems, complex integrations, and multi-cloud or hybrid cloud setups.
  • Ability to own code quality for a team through implementation, code review, and technical coaching.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-native architecture, branching strategies, CI/CD automation, and application delivery practices.
  • Experience working with Operations, Platform, or Infrastructure teams.
  • Familiarity with managed container services, infrastructure as code, observability, and production support practices.

Data, Modeling, and Applied Algorithms
  • Experience architecting production ML systems that deploy, scale, and integrate models developed by Data Scientists.
  • Strong understanding of MLOps practices, including model versioning, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and rollback.
  • Experience designing model-serving infrastructure for batch, real-time, and streaming use cases.
  • Ability to define scalable end-to-end ML architectures across data, features, models, and downstream applications.
  • Experience establishing operational standards for observability, reliability, governance, and performance of models in production.

AI and Intelligent Systems
  • Experience shipping AI-powered features to production.
  • Understanding of the lifecycle for AI-enabled features, including integration, evaluation, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Regular use of AI coding tools such as Claude, Cursor, or Windsurf in day-to-day development work.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, LLM orchestration, or agent workflows, either hands-on or in a technical leadership role.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • 7+ years of professional experience in an application development role, performing core activities across the software lifecycle- from requirements gathering and design to coding, testing, integrations, deployments, and production support
  • 7+ years proven experience with full-stack web development
  • 7+ years of experience with modern software product development, integration, and delivery
  • 4+ years of experience supporting an AI or ML development team
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role (i.e., manager, project manager, team lead, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field is generally required for this role.
  • An advanced degree such as a Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related discipline is preferred (particularly for candidates with experience in applied algorithms, AI/ML, or advanced system design).
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language and framework commonly used for production software development, with working knowledge of additional languages or stacks.
  • Experience integrating AI, ML, or LLM capabilities into software applications.
  • Experience building or integrating AI/ML/LLM-powered product features in production.
  • Experience with modern cloud platforms and application delivery tooling, such as container orchestration, infrastructure as code, observability tools, and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining scalable cloud-native applications.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, version control, and delivery practices that support reliable and frequent software releases.
  • Experience working in complex enterprise environments with distributed systems, legacy modernization, multi-team dependencies, and integrated data or application ecosystems.
  • Experience making architecture tradeoff decisions balancing scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, latency, cost, and delivery speed.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across Product, Design, Engineering, and Operations to translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical solutions and measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and uplift other engineers through pairing, code review, technical mentorship, and knowledge sharing.
  • Experience working in software development in the aerospace or other industrial industry preferred.
