Job Description:
At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money— we're here to move our global customers forward. We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that’s you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders
Remitly is looking for a Principal Product Designer to be the lead IC design voice for the Core Transfer Experience. This is one of the most consequential design roles at Remitly: you will own the end-to-end design vision for our core remittance flow, from the moment a customer opens the app through the post-submit experience.
Your primary charter is Transfer Flow - the navigation patterns, interaction systems, and moment-to-moment experience that guide millions of customers through one of the most important financial actions of their lives. But the scope of influence is broader: you will provide UX leadership across the end-to-end product funnel from the home screen (Remitly’s most visited real estate) through the teams of Transfer Flow, Recipient & Payment Experiences, and Post Submit, acting as the design connective tissue across all four squads and their shared surfaces.
This role requires both a visionary and an executor. You will set the long-range design direction for how the core remittance experience should feel and function - the navigation architecture, the interaction language, the information hierarchy - and then you will do the craft work including prototypes, flows, full-fidelity designs, and delivery.
You will report to the Director of Product and Design for Core Transfer Experience and work in a hybrid capacity from our Seattle office (2–3 days per week).
You Will1) Set and drive the design vision
Define and evangelize a compelling North Star vision for the end-to-end remittance experience — from home screen through transfer setup and post-submit — with impact that spans organizational and squad lines.
Lead the navigation architecture and interaction language for the transfer flow: the patterns, hierarchy, and systems-level decisions that make a complex multi-step financial transaction feel simple, trustworthy, and fast.
Spot and influence strategic design opportunities even outside your immediate squad scope, proactively identifying IA improvement opportunities across Remitly’s core product surfaces.
Simplify and unify systems where appropriate to tame complexity — you can justify exceptions, understand their consequences, and make confident design decisions even when systems are not yet documented.
2) Lead and elevate the design community
Serve as the embedded lead designer for the Transfer Flow squad, owning discovery through delivery — and as the UX leadership voice for Home & Explore, Recipient & Payment Experiences, and Post Submit.
Be a recognized authority on interaction design standards across Remitly, defining and elevating best practices so that intuitive, accessible, and inclusive experiences are delivered consistently at scale.
Act as a go-to advisor and coach for designers across Global Design — mentoring on craft, reframing tricky problems in design reviews, and helping others elevate their work.
Inspire the organization with the value of great design, sometimes attracting top talent who want to learn from you and the standards you set.
Influence processes across teams and handle highly conflicting feedback effectively — finding common themes and helping cross-functional groups align on direction.
3) Execute with craft and drive outcomes
Deep-dive into any product surface when the work demands it — you are equally comfortable setting architectural direction for the full transfer flow and solving a nuanced interaction problem on a single screen.
Translate customer research, quantitative signals, and business strategy into design decisions that improve conversion, send volume, and customer trust, grounding your work in qualitative and quantitative evidence.
Prototype fluently and quickly; produce flows, wireframes, and full-fidelity designs that are thorough across all interaction details and ready for engineering handoff.
Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, and Content Designers — regularly writing documents (decision memos, design rationale, research synthesis) that contribute to pivotal product decisions.
Drive solutions to some of the company’s biggest experience challenges, consistently prioritizing the highest-impact work and enabling those around you to do the same.
You Have
10+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating shipped, customer-facing work on consumer mobile products at scale.
Deep expertise in mobile consumer product design — particularly complex, multi-step transactional flows where navigation clarity, interaction quality, and trust are central to the experience.
Demonstrated success in owning end-to-end experiences: setting design vision for an entire product journey, not just individual features or screens.
A strong, developed point of view on navigation patterns, information architecture, and interaction design for native mobile — you can articulate why your choices work and what trade-offs you made.
Experience providing design leadership across multiple squads or product areas, influencing without authority and embedding design thinking into how decisions get made across cross-functional teams.
A track record of balancing strategic direction-setting with hands-on execution: you are as comfortable presenting a design strategy to leadership as you are producing high-fidelity prototypes.
The autonomy and ingenuity to organize, prioritize, and execute plans for complex initiatives over multiple quarters with full independence — earning trust through consistent, high-impact delivery.
Expert-level Figma skills and fluency with complex prototyping, interaction design, and design system contribution.
Excellent communication skills. You can present your work, articulate design rationale, and drive alignment and decision making across Product, Engineering, Research, and senior leadership.
Background designing for global audiences, including localization, accessibility, and RTL/LTR considerations across diverse markets.
Demonstrated fluency with AI as a design tool. You use it actively to accelerate discovery, synthesis, and prototyping, and you can critically evaluate new capabilities as they emerge. You have a hands-on point of view on where AI creates step-change improvements in the customer experience and how it can scale design quality and access across an organization.
Experience in fintech, payments, remittance, or other high-trust consumer financial products where the interaction design carries significant emotional and functional weight.
