Compensation: Competitive Compensation

Our client, a high-growth data and trend intelligence platform supporting top global consumer brands in beauty, wellness, and food & beverage, is seeking a talented Product Designer (Part-time, Contract) to shape the UX/UI of its core analytics dashboard and AI-powered product suite.

As the platform evolves around cutting-edge LLM features—including AI assistants, automated report builders, and inline data summaries—this role will focus on turning complex, dense trend data into clear, actionable, and intuitive digital experiences for brand innovation, product marketing, and agency teams.

This is a fully remote, part-time contract opportunity (~20 hours per week). Candidates must be located in US Central Time (UTC−6) or US Eastern Time (UTC−5) and available during core collaboration hours (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Eastern Time).

Key Responsibilities

  • Product & Experience Ownership: Partner closely with the Frontend Lead and cross-functional team members from initial discovery to launch, determining product direction, feature specifications, and UX/UI deliverables (written proposals, user flows, wireframes, and full Figma specs).
  • Problem Discovery & Solutions: Proactively identify user pain points through usage data, customer feedback, and research calls. Frame fuzzy problems into clear proposals and strategic design solutions without requiring micro-management.
  • AI Feature & UX Design: Design seamless user experiences for generative AI capabilities (chat interfaces, automated reports, and inline summaries). Define visual and structural treatments for AI confidence levels, data attribution, loading states, error handling, and insight tone.
  • Design System Stewardship: Own and elevate the Figma design system principles, collaborating with frontend engineering to align design assets with React component libraries for a unified single source of truth.
  • AI Quality Evaluation: Assist in setting benchmarks for high-quality AI outputs and reviewing user feedback loops to continually improve LLM-driven features over time.

Requirements
    • Experience: 2+ years of hands-on product design experience with proven work shipped in production environments.
    • Strategic Mindset: Strong product intuition with a focus on defining what to build and why, beyond visual design.
    • Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating strong problem-framing capabilities, including at least one case study starting from an unstructured or ambiguous problem.
    • Domain Interest/Experience: Background in or enthusiasm for data-dense software, such as analytics platforms, dashboards, or reporting tools.
    • Design Systems: Familiarity with contributing to and scaling component libraries and design systems in Figma.
    • AI & Modern Workflow: Strong interest or hands-on experience with AI/LLM products and fluency in integrating AI tools into daily design workflows.
    • Contractor & Remote Discipline: Proven ability to self-manage time, deliverables, and asynchronous communication in a remote, fast-paced environment.
    • Technical/Surface Exclusions: Note that this role strictly focuses on product UX/UI in Figma and does not require writing production code, marketing/brand design, or API/infrastructure design.
  • Nice to Have
    • Previous experience as a founding or solo product designer.
    • Experience designing AI/LLM features or evaluating generative output quality.
    • Expertise in data visualization techniques.
    • Exposure to consumer packaged goods (CPG), beauty, or market research industries.

Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package tailored to experience.
  • Collaborative, high-impact environment with direct influence on core product direction.
  • Opportunity to work closely alongside senior design leadership.
  • Flexible starting timeline (target start date in January, with early onboarding available).

Interview Process

  1. Initial Video Screening: A brief introductory video conversation to discuss background, expectations, and role fit.
  2. Personality Assessment: An online assessment to evaluate working style and team dynamics.
  3. Design Leadership Interview: A 30-minute introductory chat with the Lead Designer.
  4. Screen-Recorded Case Study: A flexible, practical exercise (details currently being finalized) to demonstrate hands-on design methodology and execution.
  5. Final Interview: A concluding conversation with key stakeholders to review results and align on next steps.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
