What We're Looking For

We are a growing Transit + TOD design studio in Seattle looking for a Project Architect who brings equal parts design talent, technical skill, and production finesse. Our team is actively designing a major Sound Transit project and expanding our work with agencies and jurisdictions across the region.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a visually driven design culture—someone who can translate ideas into clear, compelling graphics and who understands how strong visual communication elevates the entire project. You should be comfortable moving fluidly between conceptual design and technical development, with the ability to model confidently in Rhino, document rigorously in Revit, and assemble graphically-rich station chapters in InDesign.
We’re looking for a collaborator who enjoys working across disciplines, contributes to a supportive and curious studio environment, and helps raise the bar for both design quality and project delivery. Our work is fast-paced, civic-focused, and rooted in creating exceptional transit experiences for the public. If you’re energized by complex urban projects, passionate about thoughtful visual storytelling, and excited to help shape the next generation of transit design, we’d love to connect.
At HNTB, you can create a career that is meaningful to you while building communities that matter to all of us. For more than a century, we have been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country. With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee-owners.
This opportunity entails being responsible for participation in all phases of project development including full technical support of the architecture as well as incorporation of all disciplines involved with the design. Serves as a resource to the designer and project manager as the design is developed. The role may include serving as the lead technical architect on small to medium sized projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Develops and presents lead technical viewpoint on projects and ensures HNTB systems are used to deliver the design in a standardized manner.
  • Ensures that a technical solution consistent with the program and design is properly developed and produced. Integrates quality control measures during all phases of design.
  • Promotes the implementation and enforcement of BIM and design technology standards, best practices, and project team workflows.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on architectural projects of small to medium size and assists on larger projects.
  • Works closely with the project designer and manager in planning and implementing all work processes in consideration of budgets and schedules. Work includes preparing work plans, estimating hours to complete tasks, developing project reports, managing consultant team members (including coordination and incorporation of all work products) and reviewing invoices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • RA

What You'll Bring:

  • Advanced working knowledge of Autodesk Revit.
  • Skills in computational design, or other emerging technologies.
  • Knowledgeable in current and emerging tools including Autodesk Revit, cloud filesharing/collaboration, complex 3D modeling, visualization.
  • Knowledgeable in current accessibility and sustainability codes and standards.

What We Prefer:

  • Advanced knowledge of InDesign, Tally or other LCA tools, and Rhino
  • Previous experience with projects in the public realm and/or transit

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
