Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Project Ecologist/Planner to join our Energy Transition team to support and grow our expanding business in the Pacific Northwest region (primarily Washington and Oregon) across a range of sectors, including renewable energies, linear utilities, oil and gas, and rail. The successful candidate will provide technical and task management support for a variety of environmental permitting and planning projects and provide project management support for successful project delivery. This position requires experience with the Clean Water Act (CWA), National Environmental Policy (NEPA), and state agencies in both Washington and Oregon.

The position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with a diverse team and have the capacity to balance varying priorities. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams. Periodic travel may be required (15-25%) to support regional projects and teams where appropriate.

Role accountabilities:

As a Project Ecologist, you will work closely with a team of biologists, cultural resource specialists, planners, engineers, and other technical specialists to successfully execute environmental permitting projects. This includes supporting and implementing permitting strategies, including leading the preparation of permit applications, and coordinating with both regulatory agencies and clients to ensure successful project outcomes. Arcadis’ is committed to all phases of our client’s projects, and as such, you can expect to participate in the following: assistance with project siting; planning and permitting; supporting successful project construction; and finalizing permit closeout. Therefore, it is expected that you have demonstrated experience with relevant state and federal laws and regulations, including the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act.

In this role, you will also be involved in supporting the growth of new and existing client relationships in conjunction with business development leaders and account leaders. This will include leading pursuits and proposal opportunities, including scope and cost development.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required qualifications for the role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or similar environmental discipline
  • 6+ years of relevant experience managing environmental permitting projects in western US, ideally within the environmental consulting industry
  • Experienced task manager who is schedule-driven, with experience estimating and managing costs and delivery of environmental planning projects
  • Significant experience with the development of permit applications and permitting strategy with state-specific experience with the Pacific Northwest. Experience consulting/working with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is required. NEPA experience is preferred
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team and working in collaboration resource specialists in developing environmental documents for environmental projects

Preferred

  • Familiarity with field related project components including but not limited to wetland delineations, habitat reviews, construction oversight, stormwater compliance, and other similar tasks.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
