Join Precision Door Service—a team that opens doors to opportunity.
Summary
The A/R Staff Accountant owns the full accounts receivable cycle for both the commercial and residential sides of Precision Garage Door Service, a multi-branch garage door sales, installation and service company. The role covers invoicing, cash application, collections and A/R reporting across all branches.
Responsibilities
Commercial and residential receivables behave very differently. Commercial work involves builders, general contractors and property managers on credit terms, with job-based billing, retainage and lien deadlines. Residential work is high-volume and fast-moving: technician-collected payments in the field, card and financing transactions, and same-day invoicing. This person must be fluent in both and keep each one clean without letting the other slip.
Commercial A/R
- Prepare and issue invoices for commercial jobs, including progress billings, AIA-style pay applications, change orders and retainage.
- Set up new commercial accounts: credit applications, credit limits, payment terms, tax exemption certificates and W-9s.
- Track preliminary notices, lien deadlines and lien waivers by state; escalate at-risk balances before lien rights expire.
- Submit invoices through customer portals (builder, GC and property management systems) and resolve rejections quickly.
- Reconcile job billing to contracts, purchase orders and completed work with project managers and the commercial sales team.
- Run collections on commercial accounts: statements, calls, payment plans and credit-hold recommendations.
Residential A/R
- Review and post daily residential invoices from the field service system, and confirm every completed job is invoiced.
- Reconcile technician-collected payments (card, check, cash) and consumer financing fundings to the bank and merchant statements each day.
- Follow up on unpaid residential balances, declined cards, returned checks and open financing approvals.
- Process refunds, chargebacks and warranty or goodwill credits with proper approval and documentation.
- Work with dispatch, customer service and branch managers to resolve billing disputes at first contact.
Cash Application, Close and Reporting
- Apply all incoming payments (ACH, check, lockbox, card, financing) accurately and on the day received; clear unapplied cash and credits.
- Prepare the weekly A/R aging by segment and branch, with collection notes and a past-due action list.
- Own A/R month-end close: subledger-to-GL reconciliation, bad debt reserve analysis, write-off recommendations, deferred revenue and customer deposit reconciliations.
- Support sales tax accuracy on invoices across jurisdictions, and maintain exemption records.
- Provide audit and lender support: aging detail, confirmations and documentation requests.
- Document A/R procedures and recommend process and system improvements; help train branch staff on billing and payment handling.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of hands-on accounts receivable experience, including full-cycle billing, cash application and collections.
- Experience managing both B2B (commercial, on terms) and B2C (residential, point-of-service) receivables, ideally in home services, construction, trades or distribution.
- Working knowledge of construction-style billing: progress billing, retainage, change orders, lien notices and waivers.
- Solid grasp of GAAP as it applies to A/R, revenue, customer deposits and bad debt reserves; able to reconcile the A/R subledger to the general ledger independently.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and a field service platform (preferably ServiceTitan); advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups) and experience with AI.
- Professional, persistent collections style — comfortable on the phone with a GC's A/P department and with a homeowner in the same hour.
- High accuracy, strong follow-through and the ability to handle daily volume across multiple branches without supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Multi-location or multi-state experience, including sales tax across jurisdictions.
- Experience with customer billing portals (e.g., Textura, Procore, Ariba) and consumer financing programs.
- Experience in a fast-growing, multi-branch company, with a track record of tightening processes and reducing DSO.
The base pay range for this role is $31.25 – $41.83 per hour.
