Renters Insurance Program Manager

Position Summary:

The Renters Insurance Program Manager leads the Insurance Compliance Specialist team and owns renters insurance compliance for the entire Weidner portfolio. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role requiring a predisposition for action, sharp judgment, and a high level of accountability. The Renters Insurance Program Manager trains and supervises the specialists who intake, review, and correct renters insurance evidence; manages the relationship with the preferred insurance providers; produces monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting; and reconciles the monthly premium remittance. The role works daily with on-site associates, regional leaders, corporate departments, and external vendors, and is expected to provide excellent customer service in every one of those interactions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Team Supervision: Manage the day-to-day performance and workload of the Insurance Compliance Specialists, including assigning and prioritizing work, monitoring quality and turnaround times, addressing performance concerns as they arise
• Performance Management: Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins and formal performance reviews with direct reports, set individual and team goals aligned with department objectives, and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
• Staffing & Development: Interview candidates and make hiring, promotion, and corrective action recommendations for the Renters Insurance team; onboard new team members and identify development opportunities that support career growth for direct reports
• Escalation & Quality Assurance: Serve as the escalation point for complex or disputed renters insurance evidence, resolve exceptions the Insurance Compliance Specialists are unable to close, and conduct quality reviews of the team’s work
• Training: Create and maintain training documents used by the Insurance Compliance Specialists and on-site associates, assess training needs by community and by region, and partner with regional leaders to deliver training as needed
• Preferred Provider Oversight: Manage the preferred provider program and engage with preferred providers to maintain program efficiency, compliance, and service standards
• Premium Remittance Reconciliation: Review and reconcile monthly billing and premium remittance with preferred providers, and research and resolve discrepancies
• Reporting: Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual renters insurance compliance reporting as assigned, and surface trends, exceptions, and portfolio-level risk to the Director of Risk Management & Insurance
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancement, cost containment, and operational efficiency within renters insurance compliance
• Deadline Leadership: Influence and motivate others, including vendors and cross-functional teams, to meet deadlines while upholding quality standards
• Team Collaboration: Communicate regularly with the Director of Risk Management & Insurance and partner with regional leaders, on-site teams, and corporate departments to resolve compliance issues
• Service Culture Leadership: Demonstrate the values of the Weidner Customer Service Vision to team members, associates, and external customers

• Minimum of two years of renters insurance experience, either from an insurance carrier’s perspective or as a representative of a landlord in the multifamily housing space
• Minimum of two years of experience supervising direct reports, including assigning work, reviewing quality of work, and conducting performance reviews
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience within the multifamily or apartment industry preferred
• Experience reviewing and reconciling vendor billing, remittance, or account statements; bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred
• Experience developing training materials and delivering training to employees or field teams
• Experience producing recurring reporting for leadership and explaining results to non-technical audiences
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup formulas, and reconciling large data sets; proficient with Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; willing and able to learn new software programs
• Experience with Yardi or a comparable property management system; experience with an insurance compliance tracking platform preferred
• Experience handling confidential resident, vendor, and financial information in accordance with company data privacy and ethics standards
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort initiating direct conversations with associates and vendors to resolve issues

• Ability to work 5 days a week in the Kirkland home office
• Valid and current driver’s license
• Travel within the United States and Canada; valid passport
