BDS Sapphire is the common core system for engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and finance subsystems that supports the BDS mission delivering a highly capable solution comprised of three core bedrocks to include Production Data Management (PDM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

This role will report to the Sapphire Chief Engineer and will lead Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT) for the BDS Sapphire program — translating complex software subsystem requirements and business processes into a unified system architecture and verified, deployable solutions with IDT&S. The SEIT Leader is accountable for defining and verifying system-level requirements, maintaining end-to-end traceability, directing integration and verification planning, governing test execution from IPT unit testing through system and user acceptance testing, and ensuring the Sapphire solution meets standards for reliability, usability, and program objectives. This role requires cross-functional systems thinking, strong technical leadership across multiple engineering disciplines, and demonstrated ability to manage SEIT tools, baselines, and verification evidence for milestone readiness.

If you are passionate about Systems Engineering and want to be part of a dynamic team working on the Sapphire program, we encourage you to apply!

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the SEIT organization for Sapphire, providing technical direction, staffing, mentoring, and performance oversight of SEIT engineers.

  • Manage leaders across requirements, architecture, interfaces, and test to develop, maintain, and execute the SEIT verification & validation strategy, test plans, and verification matrices that demonstrate milestone readiness.

  • Manage a System Requirements team to develop system-level requirements; maintain end-to-end traceability across PDM, MES, ERP, and I&I.

  • Manage a System Architecture team to coordinate system architecture allocations and verification planning with IDT&S and other enterprise stakeholders; ensure alignment to program architecture and security requirements.

  • Manage a System Test team to plan and lead integration and system-level testing activities, including cross-IPT integration, ICD validation, smoke tests, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) support.

  • Manage a Configuration and Data Management team to ensure configuration and baseline governance.

  • Collaborate with I&I IPT with business partners for interface and integrations SoW.

  • Operate and evolve SEIT toolchains to automate testing, requirements quality checks, traceability matrices, and evidence collection with digital technology for MBSE and modular open integrations for Sapphire program.

  • Lead teams to produce and present milestone gated evidence and readiness recommendations for program milestone reviews, TRB, CCB, etc.

  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate technical risks; maintain SEIT risk, issue, and opportunity registers and escalate per program governance.

  • Enable cross-functional collaboration: facilitate technical decision-making and governance alignment across engineering, program, product, and business stakeholders.

  • Drive continuous improvement through metrics, lessons learned, and process iteration to raise quality and reduce rework.

  • Partner with PIO, IPT leads (MES, PDM, ERP, I&I, Delivery), and data governance to ensure integrated planning, schedule alignment, and traceable outcomes.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
