About Dockwa

Dockwa is reshaping the $60+ billion marine industry. After 12 years of building trust with marina operators and boaters, we have achieved something rare: category-defining position in a fragmented industry ready for transformation.

The marina industry is experiencing a generational shift. Private equity consolidation is accelerating. Operators face pressure to run marinas like real businesses, not lifestyle assets. This creates the opportunity to become the default operating layer for an industry that has never had one.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Accounting Manager to own the core accounting function at Dockwa. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you'll be the hands-on leader responsible for the integrity of our books, the rhythm of the monthly close, and the company's relationship with external auditors and tax advisors. You'll also partner with Revenue Operations to make sure our contract-to-cash processes are airtight. This is a high-impact role at a fast-growing SaaS company in the marine technology space, ideal for someone who wants to build and refine processes from the ground up.

Dockwa is remote-first, with an office in Newport, Rhode Island. You can live anywhere in the US; Newport or the Northeast is a plus.

Core responsibilities

  • Month-end close. Own and execute the full monthly close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, flux analysis, and financial statement preparation. Drive continuous improvement to shorten close timelines and increase accuracy.
  • Financial audit and corporate tax returns. Serve as the primary point of contact for the annual financial audit and corporate tax return preparation. Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors, prepare supporting schedules and documentation, and make sure filings are timely and accurate.
  • Revenue operations and order-to-cash. Partner closely with the RevOps team to manage and improve the end-to-end contract and order-to-cash (OTC) process. Own accurate revenue recognition, billing integrity, and clean handoffs between sales, operations, and finance.
  • Ad-hoc compliance. Research and address regulatory, tax, and financial compliance matters as they arise, including state registrations, sales-tax obligations, and other jurisdiction-specific requirements.
  • Payroll. Oversee end-to-end payroll processing and compliance, including multi-state tax withholdings, benefits deductions, and year-end reporting (W-2s, 1099s). Partner with HR and external payroll providers on accurate and timely execution.
  • Process and systems improvement. Identify opportunities to automate accounting workflows. Evaluate and implement tools and integrations that scale with the business.
  • Cross-functional partnership. Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations on payment processing strategy, revenue recognition, and data integrity initiatives.

What we're looking for

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or management-level role.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience managing full-cycle month-end close.
  • Proven experience managing external audits and coordinating corporate tax return preparation.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll compliance and working with external payroll providers.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a process-improvement mindset.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote-first environment while communicating proactively across teams.

Preferred

  • Prior audit or attestation experience at a nationally recognized public accounting firm (Big 4 or equivalent).
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP, including general ledger management, reporting, and system configuration.
  • Experience with Stripe or Stripe Connect, particularly in a marketplace or payment-platform context.
  • Prior experience at a SaaS, fintech, or payments company.
  • Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition in a subscription or transaction-based business.

What we offer

  • A 100% remote-friendly culture with a tight-knit team that values autonomy and ownership.
  • The chance to shape the accounting function at a company that's transforming an entire industry.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Company visits in some of the best waterfront destinations in the country.

Dockwa is an equal opportunity employer.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
