The Safety, Security & Airworthiness organization is seeking a Senior (Level 4 or Level 5) Air Safety Investigator to join the Product Safety & Investigations team in either Everett, WA or in Seal Beach, CA.
The Product Safety & Investigations (PS&I) team is chartered to ensure continuous proactive vigilance to safety in our airplane products and to provide worldwide investigative support. This position is responsible for leadership in multi-discipline company-wide airplane accident and incident investigations and coordination with government investigative agencies. A successful candidate must have the ability to lead cross-functional teams in understanding complex technical issues, to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and to represent the Boeing company to worldwide government investigative authorities.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Provides technical guidance and training relative to complex safety and airworthiness matters.
  • Assisting in timely communication with Boeing management, customers, the NTSB, the FAA, and other foreign and domestic government agencies
  • Support the identification and mitigation of airplane related risks (design, maintenance, operations) identified over the course of an investigation using existing company safety processes
  • Ability to quickly understand technical information that is not a part of your background
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in a high paced environment
  • Assists with investigations of accidents and incidents involving company products and services. Participates in company safety processes and initiatives.
  • Participates in the discussion of legal cases and claims with in-house and outside counsel.
  • Researches, acquires and provides specific facts and data in response to, or in anticipation of, litigation.
  • Prepares for interpretation and dissemination of accident investigation related materials.
  • Participates in field investigations and leads company teams at accident site. Supports compliance with protocols, logistics and safety requirements. Advises the company team members regarding tasks and safety requirements to be performed.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level 5: 14+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience leading technical teams and initiatives.
  • Overall technical working knowledge of heritage Boeing commercial model airplanes
  • Familiarity working with regulators and governmental agencies (e.g., FAA, NTSB) and with regulatory and governmental procedures and processes.
  • Experience with analyses and studies for safety, reliability, maintainability, human systems integration, survivability, and product assurance.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to resolve cross-functional and cross-program technical issues.
  • Certain Boeing Medical qualifications are required.
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise.
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a partnership environment, while being a champion for safety.
  • Ability to travel 50% of time.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):
  • Experience with engineering/scientific principles with particular emphasis on the aeronautical, mechanical, and electrical system disciplines
  • Experience conducting investigations and managing the investigative process
  • An inquisitive mind, excellent communication and people skills
  • Experience with engineering design processes (e.g. part drawings), airline operations support processes, familiarity with investigation processes and aviation safety engineering processes
  • Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:
    • Air Safety Investigations
    • Continued Operational Safety
    • Functional Engineering Discipline (e.g., Propulsion, Structures, Systems, Flight Operations, etc..)
    • Airline Operations Support Processes
    • Safety Management Systems

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range:
  • Senior (Level 4): $135,150 - $182,850
  • Senior (Level 5): $165,750 - $224,250
