We invest heavily in digital-first operations, allowing our teams to collaborate effectively across 27 U.S. states, 2 Canadian Provinces, India, Luxembourg, and England. We also have physical offices in San Francisco, New York City, Mumbai and Bangalore for employees who prefer to work in an office some or all of the time.

About Applied AI

Applied AI is Juniper Square's internal-first AI engineering team. We design, build, and run the agents and intelligence layers that help Juniper Square operate in an agentic way, starting with leadership and business-unit needs and built against our own systems of record. We are first-class engineering members of Juniper Square's agent platform team, and we build and deploy the internal projects on top of it, on Juniper Square's AI infrastructure. As the platform matures, our work will extend to clients who use the systems we build.

About your role

We are hiring Applied AI Engineers who can build. You will own delivery end to end: working with internal stakeholders to understand the problem, scoping, designing, building, deploying, and operating what you ship. You sit close to the people who use your work, not behind a ticket queue.

This is an AI-first engineering role. The solutions you build are powered by modern AI, and you will work at the leverage AI-assisted development makes possible, while understanding in depth every system you ship.

The work calls for strong systems design and hands-on full-stack engineering, with enough product judgment to define requirements and make trade-offs that get working software into users' hands quickly. You will operate independently when needed, supported by a world-class team of engineers.

Success is measured by adoption and impact. You own what you build through launch and beyond, iterating on real user feedback and contributing the patterns you develop back to Applied AI's reusable component library.

What you'll do
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, from the executive team to business units such as sales, finance, HR, and marketing, to find the workflows where custom agents create real leverage

  • Translate ambiguous business problems into clear requirements, scope, and acceptance criteria

  • Carry each solution through its full lifecycle, from prototype and stakeholder validation through hardening, deployment, and rollout to production

  • Design and build agentic systems: retrieval and context design, tool and MCP integration, orchestration, evaluation harnesses, and the observability and cost controls that keep them reliable in production

  • Design event-driven, scalable systems that ingest and process large volumes of data and documents

  • Partner with Juniper Square's platform, R&D, and product engineering teams where the work touches core systems

  • Make engineering trade-offs that hold up under real commitments, finding speed through reuse rather than through shortcuts on reliability, security, or maintainability

  • Own deployed solutions through adoption, including post-launch support, iteration on user feedback, and ongoing operation

  • Produce documentation, train users, and manage rollouts to drive adoption

  • Set the technical bar for less experienced engineers on your projects, and grow toward leading projects of your own, including client-facing work as it develops

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience shipping production software end to end, with hands-on experience building AI-native applications or agents

  • Strong systems design skills: you can think out loud and whiteboard a real system, including components, trade-offs, and what you would change

  • Full-stack engineering capability across data, services, user interfaces, and the infrastructure underneath them

  • Hands-on infrastructure ownership: deploying and operating applications on a major cloud provider, with working knowledge of containers, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and production monitoring

  • Fluency with AI-assisted development, paired with the depth to understand, debug, and defend everything you ship

  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business needs from internal stakeholders into requirements and deliver working software against them

  • Strong product judgment: defining scope for a first release, prioritizing, and knowing when something is done

  • Excellent written communication, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues

  • Potential to work directly with clients as the team's scope grows

Nice to have
  • Experience in private markets, financial services, or another regulated, data-sensitive domain

  • Familiarity with application security and data handling practices for sensitive data under contractual and SOC 2 obligations, including multi-tenant isolation

  • Experience building evaluation and regression testing for non-deterministic systems

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and large-scale document processing

  • Client-facing, consulting, professional services, or forward deployed engineering background

Compensation

Compensation for this position includes a base salary with equity, and a variety of benefits. The U.S. base salary range for this role is 165,000-200,000. Actual base salaries will be based on candidate-specific factors, including experience, skillset, and location, and local minimum pay requirements as applicable.

Benefits include:

  • Health, dental, and vision care for you and your family

  • Life insurance

  • Mental wellness coverage

  • Fertility and growing family support

  • Flex Time Off in addition to company-paid holidays

  • Paid family leave, medical leave, and bereavement leave policies

  • Retirement saving plans

  • Allowance to customize your work and technology setup at home

  • Annual professional development stipend

Your recruiter can provide additional details about compensation and benefits.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
