About the company

Our client is a fast-growing software company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Own backend and product delivery from early scoping through production in a small, highly autonomous engineering group. Make core technical choices and build intelligent, automated capabilities on top of large volumes of unstructured business data. Partner with company leadership to turn customer needs into dependable software.

What you'll do

- Carry product features from initial problem definition through backend build and release.

- Design and deliver AI agent capabilities that perform dependably on large, untidy datasets.

- Decide on architecture, data modeling, APIs and tooling across the product.

- Raise and uphold the standard of engineering quality in the codebase.

- Drive demanding, high-impact initiatives independently with little supervision.

- Contribute to product direction together with the founders.

- Convert customer needs into technical solutions and support expanding client engagements.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- At least 5 years of backend engineering on products used directly by customers.

- Background at an early-stage startup or as a founder, with software running in production.

- A record of launching customer-facing backend services that operate at real production scale.

- Comfort leading technical approach when requirements are unclear and stakes are high.

- A generalist outlook: able to work across the whole product, not only infrastructure.

- Advanced Python skills applied to production services.

- Solid grounding in backend architecture and system design.

- Working knowledge of API design and relational databases.

- Practical exposure to building with large language models or agent-based AI.

- A product-minded approach that links engineering choices to customer and business results.

Bonus points

- Prior hands-on work with customers.

- Comfort using AI coding assistants to work faster while still thinking independently.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
