Responsibilities

Data Analysis: Directs teams to partner with stakeholders and run analyses that address high-priority business questions. Builds a climate that critically tests assumptions, tools, and techniques — including agentic AI that autonomously plans, executes, and iterates on analytical tasks — and closes gaps. Drives cross-functional adoption of stronger methods and actionable insights.

Evaluation: Directs evaluations of the impact of business, product, and operational decisions. Holds teams accountable for synthesizing results, assessing risks and limitations — including oversight and accountability for agentic solutions — and tying actionable recommendations to both evidence and strategy. Advances how the organization evaluates over time.

Expertise in Data: Serves as a trusted data expert, mentoring teams to judge data sufficiency, anticipate needs, and surface quality issues early. Advises Engineering and Data Science on pipelines, integrations, and models — including the data foundations agentic systems require to run reliably. Holds the organization accountable to data governance and policy, agentic workflows included.

Improvement, Efficiency, and Innovation: Introduces innovative methods — including agentic AI that orchestrates multi-step analysis, reporting, and insight generation — that drive efficiency and business impact. Standardizes, shares, and scales insights, turning ad hoc work into repeatable, agentic-automated practice. Partners with Engineering to automate core tasks and showcases these tools to customers and industry.

Orchestration and Collaboration: Models strong cross-team relationships that align priorities and drive optimal use of analytical tools, models, and insights — including emerging agentic capabilities — and their adoption across the organization. Sets expectations with internal and external stakeholders, reinforces best practices, and connects the right people across the business.

People Management: Delivers success through empowerment and accountability. Model: live the culture, values, and leadership principles. Coach: set objectives, enable success across boundaries, and help the team learn — including fluency with agentic AI. Care: attract and retain great people, know their aspirations, and invest in their growth.

Presentation of Results: Sets the standard for presenting insights — dashboards, visualizations, self-service and agentic/conversational analytics, slides, and talking points — that drive confident decisions. Ensures results are accessible and relevant to each audience and leads presentations with senior and executive stakeholders.

Understanding the Business: Sets strategic direction and deepens teams' business acumen, integrating expertise and external trends — including agentic AI's impact on SME&C and the analytics discipline. Builds connections across Microsoft and industry to influence decisions that advance strategic goals.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
