The Role 

We are seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead a core area of our Product Development organization. This individual will drive the technical vision that powers SimplePractice's mission to simplify practice management for healthcare professionals - with a strong emphasis on AI based automation features to reduce the administrative burden on our practice owner customers. This person will report to the CTO and be a key member of the Technology leadership team at SimplePractice.

Responsibilities  
  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Lead and scale engineering teams across multiple domains (20+ engineers)
    • Build world-class engineering culture focused on excellence, innovation, and customer impact
    • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent at all levels
    • Establish clear career progression paths and mentorship programs
    • Drive organizational effectiveness through strong team structures and processes
  •  Technical Strategy & Architecture
    • Define and execute long-term technical strategy aligned with business goals
    • Ensure that system reliability, performance, and security meet company and healthcare industry standards
    • Champion adoption of modern technologies and engineering best practices
    • Oversee technical debt management and platform modernization initiatives
  • Product & Business Partnership
    • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and GTM teams to deliver customer value
    • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
    • Drive engineering input into product roadmap and strategic planning
    • Ensure engineering capacity planning aligns with business priorities
  • Operational Excellence
    • Establish engineering metrics, KPIs, and reporting systems
    • Oversee engineering budgets and resource allocation
    • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.)
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience:
    • 15+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in senior leadership roles
    • Proven track record of scaling engineering organizations (20+ person teams)
    • Experience building and operating SaaS platforms at significant scale
    • Background in healthcare technology, regulated industries, or security-critical systems preferred
  • Technical Skills:
    • Deep understanding of modern software architecture and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
    • Experience with web applications, APIs, databases, and distributed systems
    • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance frameworks
    • Hands on experience and enthusiasm with AI development tools and feature development
  • Leadership Capabilities:
    • Exceptional leadership and communication skills
    • Experience building high-performing, diverse engineering teams
    • Strong business acumen and ability to align technical decisions with business outcomes
    • Track record of driving organizational change and process improvements
Base Compensation Range

$253,000 - $300,000

Base salary is one component of total compensation. Employees may also be eligible for an annual bonus or commission. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.

The above represents the expected base compensation range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider many factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
