Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Finance Manager - SAP S/4 Specialist to help Corporate Accounting bridge finance, accounting, process governance, and engineering execution as Microsoft continues its SAP S/4HANA transformation. This role is designed for a finance professional who can operate deeply in accounting and controllership concepts while also engaging credibly with Engineering on system design, data models, process automation, controls, and operational readiness.

The Senior Finance Manager - SAP S/4 Specialist brings proficient accounting judgment, hands-on SAP S/4 Finance expertise, and the ability to translate complex financial requirements into scalable technical solutions. This person will partner across Corporate Accounting, Engineering, Finance Data, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Audit, and the broader finance community to ensure SAP S/4 capabilities support accurate reporting, effective controls, statutory and management reporting needs, and long-term operational sustainability.

Responsibilities

SAP S/4 Finance Subject Matter Expertise

  • Serve as a finance and accounting subject matter expert for SAP S/4 Finance capabilities, including general ledger, Universal Journal, ledgers, financial code blocks, group reporting, foreign currency remeasurement, intercompany activity, master data, and downstream reporting impacts. Translate accounting requirements into clear business requirements, process designs, test scenarios, and acceptance criteria for Engineering and implementation partners.

Accounting, Close, and Reporting Readiness

  • Support readiness for close, consolidation, statutory reporting, and management reporting processes impacted by SAP S/4. Identify accounting implications of system design decisions, assess risks to close timelines and reporting accuracy, and partner with business owners to define mitigations. Help validate parity between legacy and future-state processes, including trial balance, ledger, consolidation, FX, intercompany, and reporting outputs.

Engineering Partnership and Solution Design

  • Partner directly with Engineering, product owners, architects, data teams, and finance stakeholders to shape scalable solutions. Provide structured requirements, review technical proposals through a finance and controls lens, challenge assumptions, and ensure designs are practical for month-end close operations, statutory governance, auditability, and long-term sustainment. Act as a translator between accounting stakeholders and technical teams.

Controls, Compliance, and Auditability

  • Ensure SAP S/4 process designs and system changes support GAAP, SOX, statutory, and audit requirements. Evaluate control impacts, evidence standards, role-based access considerations, segregation of duties, change management, and data traceability. Partner with internal and external audit stakeholders to support readiness, respond to questions, and close control or documentation gaps.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 3+ years accounting or finance experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 4+ years accounting or finance experience OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP ECC and SAP S/4 Finance processes, configuration concepts, or transformation programs.
  • Experience translating accounting, close, reporting, compliance, or statutory requirements into system, data, process, or control requirements.
  • Experience partnering across Finance and Engineering or technical implementation teams to deliver system or process improvements.
  • Professional accounting certification such as CPA or equivalent, or advanced degree in accounting, finance, information systems, engineering, or business.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
