Role Summary

Rowan Digital Infrastructure is looking for an experienced energy professional to lead energy strategy for our growing portfolio of data center locations. As Senior Manager of Energy, you’ll lead Rowan’s energy strategy, work with leading utilities to negotiate agreements to meet Rowan’s capacity and reliability requirements and partner with customers to meet Rowan’s sustainability objectives. The successful candidate will have experience negotiating interconnection and electrical service agreements for large load customers, understanding of energy rate structures, experience supporting a team of energy experts and a passion for renewable energy and sustainability. In this role, you will lead a team that works directly with electric utilities to develop strategies for siting and developing the next generation of sustainable IT infrastructure. To succeed, candidates need to understand the technical nature of this work, as well as the commercial and regulatory elements that are required to enable these projects. The right candidate has experience leading teams in a performance driven culture.

Travel: Ability to travel up to 25% for company gatherings or to project sites.

Location: Denver, CO or Seattle, WA (hybrid in-office role)

Compensation: $165k-$185K (Offers Bonus)

Essential Responsibilities

  • Originate, develop, and execute energy strategies that deliver power infrastructure required to scale new data center campuses in line with our customer values

  • Influence center siting, delivery, and customer strategies based on the availability of grid power, alternative power sources and the sustainability of energy supply

  • Build relationships with utility partners, and customer energy teams across all levels. represent Rowan to senior executive at utilities and to our customers when negotiating agreements related to power infrastructure

  • Develop partnerships and creative solutions with utilities and other energy companies that accelerate the deployment of new data centers, including sustainable power infrastructure

  • Partner with internal and external teams to complete project due diligence and ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of energy infrastructure

  • Partner with our customers to achieve energy-related sustainability goals, including 100% renewable energy supply

  • Build the business case for project agreements and align C-Suite and Board of Directors on deal execution

  • Lead growth and development of a team of energy professionals

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (eg. engineering, business, construction management, real estate)

  • Master of Business Administration (Preferred)

  • 10+ of years of experience working to develop electric grid infrastructure to power critical loads (eg. data centers, refineries, military), working for a utility, energy project developer, design/consulting firm, construction firm or energy intensive consumer

  • 3+ years of experience leading teams of energy professionals

  • 3+ years of experience negotiating interconnection agreements on behalf of a large energy users or renewable energy developer

  • Experience working for or with hyperscale data center customers, including co-location and cloud companies (Preferred)

  • Technical expertise related to transmission and distribution infrastructure

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a performance driven culture

  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, excellent communication and collaboration skills, strong organizational skills, comfort with ambiguity, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional environment
