Job Description

The ideal Senior Manager, Enterprise Strategy & Growth leads high-impact projects that support the Executive Team and operational leaders across the enterprise, while also managing and developing a team of high-performing strategists. This role is both strategic and people-focused—balancing enterprise-wide influence with responsibility for building talent, driving engagement, and delivering results. Across the team, the common thread is helping Nordstrom achieve its long-term growth ambition.

Team Focus Areas:

  • Enterprise Strategy: “core” strategy that includes long-term planning, identifying major growth vectors, and translating strategy into a multi-year delivery roadmap in partnership with business owners
  • Business Development: identify external opportunities to contribute to long-term ambition, such as partnerships and investments
  • Market & Competitive Intelligence: measure, understand, and educate the enterprise on market trends, market share capture opportunities, and changes in the competitive landscape
  • Enterprise Activation: also known as “office of the CEO,” provide support to the CEO and delegates on special projects

A day in the life...

  • Build trust, rapport, and a strong collaborative relationship with senior leaders and stakeholders to understand the deliverables, actions, and decisions for which they are accountable
  • Frame hard, ambiguous problems by bringing a rigorous, hypothesis-led, and data-informed approach
  • Leverage strong analytical acumen to uncover insights and opportunities for unlocking business value
  • Synthesize complex inputs into clear, compelling stories that facilitate commercial decision-making and action-taking - in both verbal and written form
  • Identify and pursue sources of enterprise value creation in partnership with Strategy directors & SVP of Strategy, Executive Team and operational leaders
  • Manage and mentor a team of Associate and Sr. Associate strategists, providing coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities
  •  Role model enterprise thinking—connecting functional priorities to the broader company strategy
  • Translate strategic direction into clear execution plans and operating rhythms, ensuring accountability and momentum across teams
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders without formal authority, driving alignment and impact
  • Live Nordstrom values, showing up consistently with large measures of reliability, effectiveness and a commitment to outcomes

You own this if you have...

  • MBA or equivalent experience with 8+ years of relevant work, including in strategy, management, consulting, investment banking and/or the retail industry
  • A passion for people leadership, including a track record of developing talent through coaching and creating growth opportunities
  • A strong sense of ownership and impact that is measured not in effort, but by enterprise adoption of solutions and strong results that follow
  • High intellectual curiosity with the humility to learn and the courage to challenge assumptions
  • A strategic mindset that can “hold the tension” between getting the details right and keeping the big ideas big

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
