Echodyne offers the world’s first compact solid-state true beam-steering radar for a wide range of industries and applications. Our high-performance radars work in all weather and are designed for autonomous vehicles, uncrewed aircraft & drones, and security of borders, critical infrastructure, and smart cities. The company combines the patented technology of metamaterials with powerful software to create a radar sensor with unprecedented performance at commercial price points. Echodyne offers its radars to companies working in Automotive, Transportation, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Border Security, Smart Cities, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), and Airspace Management including Urban Air Mobility (UTM).

Echodyne is seeking a Sr RF Design Manager to join our fast-growing team.

The Manager of RF & Microwave Engineering will lead Echodyne’s RF and microwave engineering team, responsible for the design, development, and sustainment of advanced RF subsystems that enable next-generation radar platforms. This role requires a strong technical foundation in RF circuit design combined with the ability to mentor, direct, and empower a high-performing engineering team. The manager will drive technical excellence, ensure alignment with company product and program objectives, and foster collaboration across systems, mechanical, software, manufacturing, and operations teams.

The manager will guide the expert RF team through circuit design, simulation, analysis, and DfX efforts. This is inclusive of design execution, verification planning, and risk mitigation. Throughout the product lifecycle, they will lead root-cause investigations, trade studies, and continuous improvement initiatives to sustain and enhance product performance.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Electrical & RF Engineering, the manager will balance direct technical contributions with leadership responsibilities, acting as both a technical authority and a people leader.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN / WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY?
  • The chance to lead a core team in a breakthrough-hardware-first company
  • Scope to stretch: you won’t be narrowly boxed into “task manager” — you’ll still be designing, influencing strategy, setting direction
  • High leverage: your work will materially affect radar performance, product reliability, and the trajectory of multiple programs
  • Equity upside: early-stage / growth-stage upside in a hardware + software company
  • A mission with meaning: enabling safer airspace, security, autonomy, defense — real, high-stakes impact
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Technical Leadership
    • Drive the design, simulation, schematic capture, layout review, bring-up, and verification of RF printed circuit assemblies and subassemblies
    • Champion engineering best practices and Design for Excellence (DFX) principles across the RF and microwave domain
    • Lead root-cause analyses and corrective actions for RF subsystem performance or reliability issues, feeding learnings back into design processes
  • People & Team Leadership
    • Manage and grow a multidisciplinary team of RF engineers, fostering a culture of technical rigor, innovation, and continuous improvement
    • Set clear technical and professional development goals for team members, providing mentorship and coaching
    • Balance workload and priorities across projects to ensure timely delivery of program objectives
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Act as a RF engineering interface with Systems, Software, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Quality teams
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary technical reviews, ensuring alignment and clarity in design decisions
    • Partner with Program Management to define, prioritize, and communicate technical objectives and project milestones
REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
  • Technical leadership experience with RF systems, subsystems, or components across the full product lifecycle
  • Expertise in RF/microwave circuit and subsystem design, including transmitters, receivers, cascaded chain analysis, and high thermal density architectures
  • Experience bringing RF designs through schematic, layout, integration, design verification, qualification, and transition to production
  • Understanding of design-for-quality (DFQ), design-for-test (DFT), design-for-manufacturing (DFM), and design-for-assembly (DFA)
  • Ability to lead root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous process improvements
  • Track record of mentoring and elevating engineering teams
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in Electrical Engineering required; MS preferred
  • 7 or more years of experience in RF circuit and subsystem design, with at least 2–3 years in a technical leadership or management role

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
