Position Responsibilities

As a Senior Staff Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Work with your senior leadership to address project dependencies, negotiate and estimate incremental delivery dates for milestones with the stakeholder community, and deliver projects on time

  • File Exchange: Lead the File Exchange Platform team responsible for GEICO's tier-1 secure file transfer service (~3M monthly transfers). Drive modernization from ticket-based operations to a self-service portal, and CMDB-driven self-certification, deliver high availability and geo-distributed resiliency across data centers, and meet NYDFS/PCI compliance and vulnerability SLAs while reducing onboarding cycle time and support burden.

  • Unified Platform Experience and DOCAT: Lead the UPE team that defines the paved road for PaaS service providers — Platform SDKs (Python, Go, TypeScript, Java), Platform Client UI/UX, IaC as a Service. Standardize onboarding, provisioning, deployment, and lifecycle management across public and private cloud; drive onboarding user experience; and deliver blueprint-IaC solutions for consistent, defect-free service integration.

  • Unified Control Plane (UCP) : Drive shared engineering outcomes with UCP partners — advancing UCP to a production-ready tier-1 platform with audit trails, observability-as-code, governance and FinOps integration.

  • Define and enforce architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure the platform meets the highest standards of performance and reliability.

  • Ownership of the end-to-end delivery of team strategy and platforms

  • Identify and raise appropriate project risks, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable solutions or alternatives

  • Understand how requirements and design choices may impact systems across multiple areas

  • Report on your team's progress for project and other key metrics, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable ideas for areas to further improve or influence product or project delivery

  • Initiate and support performance evaluation of team members

  • Cultivate a culture that motivates all levels of performers to higher levels of achievement

  • Build and maintain relationships with your team members to support an environment of trust

  • Develop the team budget and be accountable for reporting on results achieved at regular intervals

  • Significantly contribute to the team planning process to include surfacing associate level proposals

    • At least 5 years of experience in designing, developing, and operating enterprise file transfer platforms, developer experience platforms, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) delivery systems.

    • Strong knowledge and skills in distributed systems, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.

    • Proficient in one or more programming languages, such as Java, Python, C#, .NET, Go, or TypeScript.

    • Experience driving enterprise-wide adoption of platform engineering practices including IaC (Terraform), developer portals, SDK-based onboarding, and unified control-plane architectures.

    • Proven experience with secure file transfer technologies (SFTP, HTTPS), key management (PGP), compliance automation (NYDFS, PCI), and CMDB-driven certification workflows.

  • Experience with software development, software delivery lifecycle, application modernization, DevOps, Service/Infrastructure as Code and Operations

  • Basic understanding and managing CI/CD toolchain products like Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, SonarQube and IaC tools like Terraform.
