Why This Role is Exciting

Optro is seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Product Counsel to drive legal strategy for our cloud-based solutions, ensuring that our innovation reaches customers while remaining consistent with legal requirements and our core values. This is a high-growth area partnering closely with our product and technology teams, and the ideal candidate is a confident self-starter who can navigate the intersection of law and technology in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Act as the expert advisor for our product management, development, engineering, support, and marketing teams, providing strategic guidance on commercial terms, privacy issues, global regulatory compliance, privacy-by-design, data protection, and the responsible use of AI.

  • Influence the design and deployment of products by advising on legal, ethical, and regulatory issues in emerging technologies.

  • Draft clear and concise agreements, terms of use, and public-facing disclosures. Lead complex technology transactions by negotiating commercial and licensing agreements.

  • Design and conduct comprehensive legal analysis and monitor evolving regulations (such as cybersecurity and AI) to translate complex requirements into actionable, solution-oriented advice.

  • Review and interpret third party posted terms to guide the product teams and ensure Optro compliance

  • Provide pragmatic, strategic advice that takes into account legal risk, product adoption, and advancing business goals and initiatives

  • Own Legal’s role in developing commercial strategy for new products

Attributes for a Successful Candidate

  • Education:

    • J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar.

  • Experience:

    • 8-12 years of experience at a national law firm or in-house legal department, with a focus on product counseling and technology transactions.

    • A technical background or prior internal audit experience is preferred to partner deeply with technical leads.

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Experience advising on AI applications, cloud services, data privacy, and cybersecurity standards.

    • Familiarity with multi-cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and compliance frameworks like SOC 2 or ISO 27001 is a plus.

  • Communication Skills:

    • Exceptional ability to translate complex technical and legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for a range of business partners.

  • Mindset:

    • A creative problem solver with a sense of humor, high integrity, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

    • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize and work independently
