About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Product team in a full-time, temporary position anticipated to last approximately six months. This role provides additional design capacity during a planned team leave and keeps momentum across several important product initiatives. You will help shape, refine, and elevate complex workflows across InStride’s digital platform, converting clinical and operational friction points into intuitive, high-impact user experiences.
You will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Data, and our clinical and operational partners to bring speed, craft, and scale to our product ecosystem. We are looking for an experienced product designer who can build context quickly, navigate ambiguity independently, lead discovery, and deliver high-quality design work inside an established product organization.
This position is expected to run approximately from November 2026 through April 2027. While there may be an opportunity to extend the assignment or explore a permanent position based on future business needs, budget, and performance, neither an extension nor conversion to a permanent role is guaranteed.
This is a fully remote position.
Responsibilities:
- Lead product design across active product streams, partnering with Product Management to refine problem spaces, navigate ambiguity, and propose design trade-offs early in the product cycle.
- Audit existing clinical and operational workflows using user research, product data, and design reviews, then translate what you find into changes that improve clinical efficiency and patient outcomes.
- Propose, document, and maintain scalable components and dynamic patterns within InStride’s Figma-based design system, keeping libraries organized for cross-functional production.
- Design system architectures that cleanly handle complex data, dynamic error states, and the range of environments our users work in.
- Build prototypes at the fidelity each moment calls for, from low-fidelity wireframes through interactive high-fidelity flows in Figma, matched to the needs of user tests, stakeholder reviews, or the relevant Software Development Lifecycle phase.
- Integrate AI tools into the design workflow, including generative layout tools, AI-assisted content generation, and automated interaction generation, to accelerate exploration and shorten discovery cycles.
- Independently lead user research and discovery for major initiatives, scoping and executing the minimum viable amount of research needed to efficiently mitigate risk before investing in a build.
- Ensure clinical safety and accessibility standards (WCAG) are met across all designs, and conduct competitive audits to bring best-in-class UX patterns into the product.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs alongside Engineering and Data partners, weighing speed against complexity and communicating design rationale, logic, and component dependencies clearly.
- Participate fully in your sprint team’s ceremonies, design team reviews, and regular check-ins with your manager and cross-functional partners, managing project timelines and keeping the engineering pipeline stocked with validated, technically feasible design work.
- Deliver early, actionable critique in design reviews and mentor design team members on best practices, tips, and modern AI-enhanced design workflows.
- Document active streams, design system changes, and open decisions so that work in progress transitions cleanly at the close of the assignment.
What You Need to Succeed in the Role
- 5+ years of end-to-end product design experience, ideally in health tech, digital health, or complex enterprise SaaS applications.
- Master-level proficiency in Figma, including auto-layout, advanced component variables, dynamic states, and modern plugin ecosystems.
- Demonstrated experience with design system management, tokenization, and scaling design libraries for enterprise applications.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI-driven prototyping or generative design tools to speed up discovery and validation workflows.
- Proven track record using research, data, and competitive auditing to de-risk projects and drive product strategy.
- Strong knowledge of web and mobile accessibility standards (WCAG) and clinical or data safety guidelines.
- A portfolio that demonstrates complex workflow design, systems thinking, and measurable product outcomes.
- Ability to build context quickly and contribute meaningfully inside an established product organization within the first few weeks.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to convey design rationale clearly to both technical and non-technical partners.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and setting direction on complex problems with general guidance rather than detailed instruction.
- Availability to work standard business hours with sufficient overlap across US time zones for sprint ceremonies, design reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.
Compensation
The annualized base salary range for this position is $114,000 to $127,000. Actual compensation will be determined on an individualized basis and will be based on several factors including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
As a full-time InStride employee, this position is eligible for InStride’s employee benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage and other benefits available to eligible employees.
