Overview

Get great search into customers' hands. Search powers how people find answers in Microsoft Copilot and the apps they use every day, and how AI agents find what they need to act. Expectations are high and the technology moves fast. Turning ambitious ideas into reliable, high-quality experiences at scale is what sets great products apart. Join our team to build and ship search experiences that millions of people rely on.

We're looking for a Senior Product Manager who gets things done. You'll take important search initiatives from early concept to launch, turning strategy into concrete plans, clear requirements and shipped experiences. You'll manage complex dependencies across engineering, data science, research and design teams, remove blockers, make tradeoffs, and keep work moving. Once features launch, you'll measure their impact, learn from customers and keep iterating.

This role suits a builder PM who thrives on momentum and brings structure to complex, cross-team work. You're technical enough to go deep with engineers on systems and architecture, and practical enough to keep your focus on what ships and how it lands with customers. Experience with search, information retrieval or AI-powered experiences is valuable. Above all, you take ownership, follow through, and hold a high bar for quality.

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

Product Development and Release

  • Turn strategy into shipped experiences. Translate team priorities into clear requirements, user stories and success criteria. Take features from concept through private preview, public preview and general availability.

  • Own the roadmap. Drive the roadmap for your areas across organizational boundaries. Prioritize the backlog, align with engineering on tradeoffs, identify dependencies, and resolve difficult tradeoffs with peers to keep work moving.

  • Manage complex dependencies. Coordinate across feature teams, platform teams and partners. Spot risks early, remove blockers, and make sure work fits together across the technology stack.

  • Hold a high bar for quality. Define release criteria and lead scenario walkthroughs to find problems and system friction before customers do. Make sure experiences meet standards for quality, security, privacy and responsible AI.

Product Performance and Iteration

  • Define and measure success. Set success metrics for AI-powered search (for example, relevance and precision/recall) alongside engagement and satisfaction measures. Make sure the right telemetry is in place before launch.

  • Experiment and iterate. Use technical knowledge of APIs, infrastructure and AI models to form hypotheses, run experiments and A/B tests, and drive measurable improvements after launch.

  • Close the loop with customers. Use customer feedback, telemetry and direct engagement to understand how releases land, and turn what you learn into the next set of improvements.

Operational Excellence

  • Build team habits. Set up and run planning, status, review and release processes that keep teams aligned, accountable and moving quickly.

  • Work AI-first. Use AI tools, agents and automated workflows to speed up specs, prototyping, analysis and status tracking, combining AI output with human judgment.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead through influence. Bring engineering, data science, research and design partners around shared goals and commitments, without direct authority.

  • Communicate with clarity. Share progress, risks, tradeoffs and results clearly with stakeholders at every level, so decisions are made quickly and teams stay aligned.

  • Raise the bar for the team. Coach and mentor peers, share what you learn, and help build an inclusive, collaborative culture.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working training/evaluating search/information retrieval systems as Product Manager, Software Developer, or Data Scientist
  • Experience with search, retrieval, ranking or recommendation systems, or large language model (LLM)-powered experiences.
  • Solid technical depth, including comfort with system architecture and APIs, and the ability to engage closely with engineering and data science.
  • A track record of shipping complex, cross-team products or features at scale, from early concept to general availability.
