As FieldKit has deployed more accessible environmental sensing technology out into the world, our product and project needs have grown in parallel. We are looking for a highly organized versatile leader who can drive forward FieldKit’s hardware and software product development alongside our in-field partner projects.

This role encompasses both product and project management; leading a small experienced team advancing conservation technology while supporting successful community-based partner projects worldwide. We’re seeking a strong communicator, collaborative problem-solver, and proactive leader fluent in agile and waterfall methodologies. You’ll balance strategy, project details, and team capacity while managing production logistics, deadlines, and priorities. If you’re a compassionate, adaptable guide, who loves nothing more than building strong relationships, knowing when to pivot, setting teams up for success, and empowering them to excel, we’d love to hear from you.

This job offers the opportunity to see your work impact positively on the environment and our planet’s natural treasures, while acting as an invaluable member of our small, fun team as FieldKit expands.

Key Responsibilities

Here are some of the core responsibilities for the job – these are what you would spend most of your time doing:

  • Multi-platform product management
    • Feature prioritization, product roadmap, and kanban board management across electrical and mechanical hardware, firmware, software (mobile app, online data portal, FieldKit.org), and printed collateral
    • Strategic management through design, prototyping, development and release phases
    • Stakeholder management and meeting stewardship, facilitating input on feature prioritization from executive leadership and the customer support team
  • Partner project management
    • Creating scopes of work, schedules, estimates, project tasks, deliverables, assumptions and dependencies
    • Developing strategic project plans, identifying resource requirements, managing risk, tracking progress, and course-correcting
    • Synthesizing the project brief, including goals, success metrics and mandatories
    • Leading the project team, facilitating smooth processes, and outlining internal project roles and responsibilities, workflow, and approval process
    • Building strong relationships with partners, outlining roles and responsibilities, workflow, and approval process, managing expectations, and flagging issues
    • Ensuring that projects are delivered on time, budget, and to agreed quality
    • Support grant reporting and documentation for the project

Sometimes you might also:

  • Manage the production of FieldKit’s hardware products to meet order demand, interfacing with third party manufacturing houses, the engineering team, and the fulfillment team to ensure FieldKit’s customers and partner projects are well supported
  • Manage internal projects (like competitor testing co-deployments, product photoshoots, internal wiki), contractors, and consultants
  • Manage onsite installations and visit deployments in the field
  • Document and develop internal protocols and processes
  • Train and oversee additional project support, as needed
  • Guide Exec team resourcing strategy discussions, liaise with the contracts team to execute contracts, and support other functions including grant fundraising, communications, sales, and operations

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

We value a diversity of backgrounds and expertise so if you’re confident in your ability to do the job, then we encourage you to apply. What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
