About Nametag

Nametag is building the future of secure digital identity. Our mission is to make it easy for people and organizations to prove who they are online - safely and seamlessly. We’re pioneering next-generation identity verification and account protection so that users can control their own identity, and companies can build trust without friction.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend / Full Stack) to design and scale the systems that power our identity verification and account protection platform. You’ll work across the stack - from APIs and databases to user interfaces - helping shape how millions of people prove who they are online.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering leaders to build secure, reliable, and delightful experiences.

What You’ll Do

Backend & Systems Design

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
  • Manage database schema design, migrations, and performance optimization.
  • Build and refine authentication, authorization, and data protection systems.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and the overall technical roadmap.

Full Stack Development

  • Collaborate with design and product to build responsive, secure, and user-friendly web interfaces.
Develop internal tools, dashboards, and supporting applications that improve developer and customer workflows.
  • Ensure seamless integration between front-end and backend services.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with product, design, and DevOps to deliver impactful, customer-focused solutions.
  • Review code, mentor peers, and help raise the technical bar across the team.
  • Champion best practices in testing, deployment, and observability.

Innovation & Problem Solving

  • Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges across the stack.
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate their potential impact on our architecture.

Ideal Qualifications

We know that no candidate will perfectly match every requirement — and that’s okay. If you’re passionate about what we’re building and have most of the skills below, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Languages & Frameworks: Strong experience with backend languages such as Node.js, Go, or Python; plus proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks (React or Vue.js).
  • Databases: Skilled with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), including schema design and query optimization.
  • APIs: Proven track record designing and implementing RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
  • Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation) or similar platforms.
  • Security: Familiarity with authentication standards (OAuth, SAML) and secure coding best practices.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and success working on remote, cross-functional teams.
  • Education: Degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

What We Value
  • Intellectual horsepower – quickly grasping complex technical and business concepts.
  • Kindness and integrity – earning trust is central to how we build relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Bias for action – we move quickly to deliver impact and protect our customers against fast-moving threats.

Compensation

The base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 to $190,000, plus equity and benefits.

Nametag is a founding member of the Open Imperative, publicly committed to pay equity in the technology industry. We post positions with ranges to encourage people of different backgrounds and experiences to apply. Every offer is benchmarked against market data to ensure fairness and consistency.

Final compensation is determined by role, level, and additional factors such as skills, experience, and education. Your recruiter or hiring manager can share more details during the hiring process.

Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
