Design and extend systems for legal fund automation, collaborating across teams to solve complex problems and optimize processes for efficiency.
About AngelList:
We exist to accelerate innovation by increasing the number of successful startups in the world. We want to give more people the opportunity to participate in the venture economy by building the financial infrastructure that makes it possible for more people to invest in world changing startups, and build tools for startups that help them run their operations so they can focus on building.
AngelList is the nexus of venture capital and the startup community. We support over $124B+ assets on our platform, and we’ve driven capital to over 12,000 startups, almost 282 of which are unicorns. 57% of top-tier U.S. VC deals involve investors on AngelList.
While our scale is large, our ambitions are even larger – we’re innovating on the financial infrastructure for venture investors and the startups they invest in. Come build with us.
About the Role:
AngelList is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer with a founder mindset for our Fund Formation team. Everything that happens on the AngelList platform allows investors to seamlessly set up a fund and raise money to invest in startups – grounded in legal entities. We are essentially turning the legal complexities of creating a fund into software, at scale.
Fund Formation is where we form Limited Partnerships, file the funds with the SEC, enter the entities into the IRS's systems, create a blocker entity, and a management company. It’s where we incorporate with Delaware and establish securities offerings with state regulators. Fund Formations infrastructure is the bridge to the real world, and we do this at a higher volume than anyone else!
At AngelList, we pride ourselves on having an outsized impact on the venture capital industry. We've reached ambitious goals with a <50-person EPD team: https://www.angellist.com/2023. Teams are explicitly small and built on high-autonomy, ownership, collaboration, and mutual respect.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Design and extend a system that can intelligently interact with government websites.
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to influence and bridge the gap between engineering and legal teams.
- Solve complex problems at scale. Where others throw people at the problem, we leverage software to automate processes for real-world actions.
- Creatively problem solve for business needs – building software or trying different tools to make our process more stable and easier to maintain.
- Impact AngelList's growth, while working with other highly talented and collaborative colleagues to grow personally and professionally.
You are most likely:
- A senior back-end or full-stack engineer with 6+ years of experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Motivated by solving complex business problems through automations, alongside non-technical stakeholders
- Interested in working with legal filings, government regulations, compliance technology, and reducing data / error rates
- Exploring browser automations using Puppeteer or Playwright, or robotic process automation (RPA) or LLMs
- Using TypeScript / NodeJS (or similar) and may have experience with Ruby, though not required
- Experienced working with both monolithic apps and serverless microservices deployed on AWS
- Detail-oriented but can scope down projects to focus on what’s important; and willing to dive in
- Deeply in love with startups, having worked in at least one! You may have even founded one yourself or hope to start a company in the future.
We have more great opportunities on other Engineering teams, so please just apply to one open role. The team will consider you for all open roles that could be a fit!
If you don’t tick every box above, we’d still encourage you to apply. We’re building a diverse team whose skills balance and complement one another.
AngelList has offices in two hub cities: San Francisco and New York City. We’re focused on hiring within these hubs and people hired from these hub offices are expected to come into the office twice per week (Tuesdays and choice between Wednesday or Thursday). From time to time, we will make rare exceptions for new hires if they need to be fully remote.
