The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead the evolution of the Boeing Translation Engine (BTE), our core framework for interpreting complex telemetry from Commercial and Military aircraft in Seattle, WA. This role supports the Boeing Global Services (BGS) organization.
This role centers on the design, development, and enhancement of the OPT application, a critical tool enabling airline pilots worldwide to perform accurate, real-time calculations related to weight and balance, takeoff, climb, inflight, and landing performance. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of airplane performance and flight operations coupled with strong software engineering expertise. The engineer will drive innovation and reliability in software solutions critical to airline flight operations, delivering both administrator and end-user functionality through robust and maintainable application architectures.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Owns the architecture, design, hands-on development, analysis, and maintenance of the Boeing Translation Engine software systems
  • Transforms raw, high-volume binary sensor data (ARINC 429, 717, 767) into high-fidelity, actionable engineering intelligence
  • Implements robust integrity checks, including CRC, checksums, parity, and built-in test (BIT) status verification
  • Partners with SMEs to translate complex requirements into scalable, high-performance analytics pipelines for time-series datasets
  • Architects storage paradigms using Apache Parquet, ORC, HDF5, and Delta Lake, ensuring optimized analytical performance
  • Provides comprehensive technical leadership; guides teams in building and operating production-ready systems for sensor data calibration and synchronization
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for data processing; moves successful experiments into production codebases
  • Mentors and develops engineers through code reviews, design walkthroughs, and technical coaching
  • Independently takes projects from initiation through delivery with minimal supervision, including authoring the majority of the implementation
  • Creates clarity from ambiguity through effective teamwork, problem decomposition, and clear technical communication

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
  • 9+ years of experience with software development using either Java, C++, or Python
  • 2+ years of experience working with and/or interpreting engineering data or engineering drawings
  • 2+ years of experience performing quantitative or statistical analysis, data collection, preparation and interpretation

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 9+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 13+ years of directly related work experience OR 17+ years of related, relevant experience
  • 2+ years experience developing large scale distributed software systems and cloud service deployment
  • Deep experience with ARINC 429, ARINC 717, and ARINC 767 formats
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Parquet, Apache ORC, HDF5, and Delta Lake
  • Proven ability to own, maintain, and document core software intellectual property
  • Subject matter expertise in sensor physics (transduction) and aircraft dynamics

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay Range Senior (Level 4): $171,700 - $232,300
Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
