Software Engineer I - XMD

Why We Have This Role

Qualtrics is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our XM Directory (XMD) Engineering team in our Seattle office. If you have a Bachelor’s degree, some software engineering experience or relevant internships, and want to work at a fast-growing tech company, Qualtrics could be the place you’ve been dreaming about.

You should love building simple solutions to solve hard customer problems and designing systems in an agile environment to withstand hyper growth.

How You’ll Grow
  • Develop the ability to build scalable, fast, robust, and simple SaaS solutions.
  • Learn dev tools, operational tools, test tools, and containerization.
  • Learn to implement functionality from well-defined technical requirements and specifications.
  • Benefit from working with other engineers, tech-ops, and product managers.
  • Learn Agile methodologies by attending daily stand-up meetings, prioritizing tasks, and working with a sense of urgency to meet a scheduled plan to deliver value to our customers.

  • Foundational understanding of clean coding principles, with a strong eagerness to learn, take guidance, and contribute to team goals
What You Should Know About This Team
  • Every great experience starts with knowing who you’re talking to. XM Directory is where that knowledge lives.
  • When a customer, employee, or other stakeholder interacts with a company, XM Directory can capture it and remember it. Over time, those moments add up to living profiles that show what people like, what they need, and how every interaction makes them feel.
  • That experience context helps close the Experience Gap, the distance between what people expect and what companies deliver, and it lets AI, including our Experience Agents, act in the moments that matter. As Qualtrics builds its next-generation XM Data & AI Platform, you’ll work on the data layer it depends on.
  • Behind that is an engineering team solving big-data problems: storage systems built to hold stakeholder data at scale, and computation and serving layers that make it fast and useful the moment someone needs it. When AI is acting inside a live customer moment, that data has to be fresh, accurate, and fast to reach. We pick the right tool for each job from a broad toolkit of open source and industry-proven technologies, including Elasticsearch, AWS DynamoDB, AWS Kinesis, Redis, and more.
  • As a Software Engineer I on the XMD team, you’ll build on your skills in distributed systems, frontend development, and databases. You’ll learn from senior engineers, take on meaningful problems early, and help build the data foundation that AI-powered experiences depend on.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
