Role Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Mobile Product Engineer (React Native) to help build and evolve a high-quality mobile product alongside the client’s existing team.

You’ll use React Native, Expo, ReactJS, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL. You’ll make architecture decisions that balance performance, reliability, security, maintainability, and delivery speed across the mobile and web product.

The product’s user base is primarily on iPhone and iPad, so a strong iOS experience is highly valuable. You’ll work with the client’s business and technical stakeholders to understand user needs, clarify problems, and explain solution options in business terms before choosing a technical approach. You’ll own mobile changes through implementation, testing, release, and production support. This is a hands-on role for an autonomous engineer who can solve complex problems, make sound architectural decisions, and communicate trade-offs clearly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the client’s business and technical stakeholders to understand goals, user needs, and constraints. Ask questions before proposing a solution.
  • Frame business needs as clear problems and acceptance criteria. Compare solution options and explain trade-offs in business terms.
  • Own mobile changes from solution design through implementation, testing, release, and production support.
  • Design and maintain high-quality mobile applications for iOS and Android using React Native and Expo. Focus on the iPhone and iPad experience while supporting Android.
  • Apply sound software and mobile architecture. Define component boundaries, data flows, API integrations, and technical trade-offs for reliability, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Build web platform features with ReactJS, Next.js, and TypeScript. Support a consistent user experience across mobile and web.
  • Contribute to Node.js and TypeScript APIs. Work with back-end teams and PostgreSQL to support reliable product integrations.
  • Partner with the client and design teams on user flows, usability, and interface decisions.
  • Optimize application performance and responsiveness across devices and screen sizes.
  • Apply security, testing, and code-quality practices. Participate in code reviews and continuous integration.
  • Communicate technical decisions, risks, progress, and updates to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and work with autonomy in a small team.

Requirements
  • 4+ years of professional experience in mobile development.
  • iOS Experience: Experience building products for iPhone and iPad users is highly valued.
  • Software Architecture: Strong knowledge of mobile and software architecture. You can explain component boundaries, data flows, API integrations, and trade-offs in reliability, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Ability to take mobile changes from problem framing through testing, release, and production support.
  • Product Problem-Solving: Ability to clarify business and user needs, compare solution options, balance speed and quality, and explain recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Autonomy: Ability to move work forward with minimal supervision and collaborate through technical debate.
  • Senior-level proficiency with our core stack:
    • React Native
    • Expo
    • ReactJS
    • TypeScript

Preferred Experience & Attributes

  • Experience shipping and supporting React Native applications in production
  • Experience optimizing mobile applications for iPhone and iPad
  • Experience with ReactJS, Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL
  • Experience working directly with client stakeholders in a small, autonomous team

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
