Sr Physical Substation Engineer

Stantec is seeking Intermediate and Senior Civil/Structural Engineers to support our Substation Physical Electrical Teams. You will be responsible for developing and leading substation structural design efforts and coordinating with Physical Electrical teams. The successful candidate should have experience in the areas of substation design and project engineering from the 13kV to 500kV levels, experience with areas of air-insulated substations (AIS), gas-insulated substations (GIS), as well as an understanding of substation components, single line diagrams, substation layout, related electrical studies, rigid bus design, and design codes such as IEEE and MOP. This position will include work planning, inter-discipline coordination, design team leadership, reporting and cost estimating. 

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering efforts for design of foundations, equipment support, rigid bus and enclosures associated with power delivery projects
• Perform QA/QC of structural engineering design packages
• Work closely with Project Managers and Discipline Leads to meet with project timelines for engineering deliverables
• Determine appropriate allocation of resources and tracking man hours on project
• Review, comment and approve design drawings and calculations for substation construction packages including codes and standards compliance, client expectations, and quality standards.
• Work with P&C team to produce complete station drawings
• Attend client interactions and project status meetings
• Participate in project planning meetings and proposal development
• Coordinate engineering resources from offices across the US and internationally to support project execution

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Ability to lead a team of engineers working on Substation design including interdisciplinary coordination
• Experience with site visits, in order to capture technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions
• Capable of producing general arrangement drawings, foundation plans, steel elevations, structural details, and Bill of Materials.
• Ability to develop and maintain good client relationships and be able to demonstrate solid technical ability
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks

Education and Experience:

• Registered PE preferred, with NCEES Record desired.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field with a minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in power delivery
• Experience with site visits, to capture technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions
• Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time, and working with remote teams. 
• Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
