Principal Process Engineer

Huntsman is seeking a Principal Process Engineer supporting the Performance Products Division located in Conroe, TX. This position will report to the Technical Team Lead.

Job Scope

This position will provide advanced technical expertise to support safe, reliable, and cost effective operations at the chemical manufacturing site. This role is responsible for developing process designs, evaluating and improving existing unit operations, and providing engineering solutions in response to site technical requests. The engineer partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Process Safety, and Capital Project teams to ensure process designs meet business, safety, and regulatory requirements.

In summary, as the Principal Process Engineer, you will:
  • Lead development of process designs and design packages for modifications and new/expanded unit operations, ensuring they meet business, safety, and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide advanced technical support to operations by implementing technical engineering solutions that improve reliability, quality, and cost performance across the plant.

  • Participate in cross-functional teams and discussions such as project meetings, process improvement teams, PHA Studies, and plant metric reviews.

  • Own the process engineering workflow for incoming changes: define scope, conduct process reviews, and steward MOC through approval and hand off to execution.

  • Actively seek opportunities to add experience and logical approach to problem solving, goal setting, and unit improvements. Use technical knowledge and experience to guide, coach, and instruct other plant engineers, both on-site and globally.

  • Function as a resource for the evaluation and design of pressure relief systems across the site.

  • Monitor efforts at the site to ensure compliance with all elements of Process Safety Management and the Huntsman Product Stewardship Initiatives.

  • Follow instructions and perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

  • Assist other employees in the accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.

  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs.

  • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

Education required

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a related engineering field.

  • 10+ years of relevant process engineering experience in a manufacturing or chemical environment.

Skills and knowledge
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.

  • Experience in Pressure Relief Design and Process Safety Management.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail and critical thinking.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels up to executive level inside and outside the company.

  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing, and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for job success.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced PC skills and ASPEN Software experience is a plus.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
