About Us:

Read AI is building the storage of intelligence to drive the future of AI. Helping individuals and teams stay on track across meetings, email, messages, and every major productivity tool. We handle the mundane tasks like notes, scheduling, prioritization, and information sharing so people can focus on what matters.

Backed by $81M from Smash Capital, Madrona, and Goodwater Capital, we’re growing fast and looking for builders who want to shape the future of AI-powered work.

The Role:

As a Staff Frontend Engineer at Read AI, you won't just build features — you'll own the future of how millions of people experience our product. This is a role for someone who thinks beyond the ticket, sees around corners, and takes personal pride in the quality and direction of everything they touch — setting standards for how we build, influencing what we build, and ensuring that every user interaction with Read feels fast, intuitive and delightful. You will work across our core product surfaces, including our reporting app, billing experience, native integrations (like Zoom, Meet, Teams etc.) and our browser extensions, leaving a lasting mark on all of them.

Responsibilities
  • End-to-End Ownership: Own the quality and technical direction of Read's client facing experiences from early design through production and beyond.

  • Strategic Partnership: Partner closely with product and design to shape what we build, not just how we build it, by bringing a strong point of view to the table early in the process.

  • High-Impact Leadership: Lead by example on our most critical initiatives, setting the pace and standard for the rest of the team.

  • Problem Solving: Identify what's slowing us down or holding the product back and fix it. This may involve refactoring a brittle system, closing a process gap, or rallying the team around a better approach.

  • Technical Anchor: Be the person others turn to when something is hard, unclear, or high-stakes. Bring clarity and momentum to ambiguous situations.

  • Mentorship: Grow the people around you. Invest in the success of other engineers and make the whole team better as a result.

  • User Advocacy: Champion the user. Push back when something isn't right and advocate fiercely for a high-quality, accessible experience.

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience: A strong background in frontend and fullstack engineering with a proven track record of being the technical authority across multiple domains and owning technical systems spanning multiple teams.

  • Technical Depth: Deep experience with TypeScript and React, specifically building and maintaining complex, user-facing products at scale.

  • Independence: A history of driving work forward independently by setting direction, making judgment calls, and seeing things through without a blueprint.

  • Product Instincts: Strong instincts for product quality and user experience rather than just technical correctness.

  • State Management: Experience with approaches like Redux or Zustand.

  • Communication: Ability to align stakeholders, influence without authority, and translate technical decisions into business terms.

  • Team Growth: A genuine investment in the professional development of the engineers around you.

Why Read AI?
  • Innovative: We bring AI to the masses with proactive technology that acts as the ultimate AI assistant. Built on our proprietary, patented technology, Read AI takes notes, surfaces information, facilitates collaboration, and learns you, making individuals and teams more effective. We launched Operator to capture and analyze conversations wherever they happen: On the go, spontaneously, in your office hallway, and at a coffee shop.

  • We’ve also introduced our new desktop apps for Windows and macOS and our Android app, joining Read AI for iPhone and web.

  • Massive Impact: AI's greatest impact will be on the ability to allow people to do more, taking away mundane tasks, and guiding them to the next best action.

  • Growth Opportunities: Read AI is the fastest growing AI-copilot and meeting notetaker in history, and is one of the leading AI companies in the world, adding more than 1MM new customers every month. The company raised Series A and B in 2024, also was recognized as a Top Startup in Seattle by LinkedIn (2025), also notably a Top Company To Watch in 2025 by Inc Magazine, and is one of the Top AI Companies in Demand by Startups, according to a16z.

  • Leadership: Learn more about CEO and Co-Founder David Shim in this Fortune Good Life profile and listen to him share his vision for AI Agents, Digital Twins and the Future of Work. CTO and Co-Founder Rob Williams was recently anointed as one of the most disruptive leaders in AI. For more on our technology, Co-Founder and VP Data Science Elliott Waldron goes behind-the-scenes on our patents and models in this tech brief.

  • Collaborative Culture: Work in a supportive and collaborative environment with a diverse and talented team.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $220,000 - $250,000 plus equity and benefits. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer low deductible health plans, as well as flexible time away and family leave programs.

Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
